Playing against the Brownhills Colts the under 10 pumas with an average age of 8 found themselves facing a very tough game against a much older experienced Brownhills side. It was touch and go to if the game would go ahead, with zero degree temperatures and a tough playing service, the ref deemed the game playable, and wow did the girls respond in style. The 1st 10 minutes were pretty even, with the puma’s matching the older girls in skill, determination and effort, only to go 2 goals behind just before halftime. The half time team talk reminded the girls of recent results and ability and to make sure we extended the unbeaten run from 2 to 3 games. The girls responded, solid at the back, gritty in midfield and pure brilliance from Sophie Willis up front who scored 2 exceptional goals from midfield splitting the Brownhills defence on both occasions. The Pumas could have gone on to win the game, going very close twice to nick the victory. Never the less this was huge strides forward for a pumas team who lost to the same Browhills girls 7-1 on the 1st game of the season. Well done to everyone involved with the club in bringing a truly remarkable improvement in these girls, now 3 games unbeaten. Player of the Match – Sophie Willis a little superstar today

The Pumas are getting stronger and stronger again playing the older Panthers team they had beaten the week before, the Panthers were out to get a result, however due to the solid and improved performances from the pumas team this was not to be the panthers day. The pumas started very brightly and in the 1st half the better team, both Sophie & Chloe going very close to getting the pumas noses in front. There were a few shaky moments in the pumas defence by some fine play from the panthers, but the defence of Danni Machin, Elouise Rowlands, Tia Holgate and goalkeeper Libby Thornly made some exceptional last ditch tackles and saves. The 2nd half the Pumas pushed on, again with many opportunities to break the deadlock, which on a different day could have taken the 2nd victory against the panthers in as many weeks. This is the 2nd game unbeaten for the pumas who are improving with every blade of grass they cover. Player of the Match Libby Thornly.

Saturday 19th Novemeber is the day ten, 8 year old girls will remember for many years, it was their 1st cup game, in thier 1st season playing, against a much older and bigger team, the Pumas, having lost every game so far in the season were up against it, yet improving. The 1st half was a delight to watch the younger pumas took the game to the panthers coming in at half time 1 goal ahead through a fine finish from Chloe Birch. The Pumas went close several times in the 2nd half to double their lead, yet couldnt find the net, then the inevitable happend a last minute equaliser from the panthers forcing the game to extra time.

An inspired team talk, big gulp of the girls favourite squash spurred then into action and Chloe Birch did the business again in the 1st half of extra time another excellent goal giving the Pumas a 2-1 lead with 5 minutes to play. The girls battled with grit and determination, not only to secure their 1st win as footballers, but put themselves in the cup final in their 1st season of playing the game.

A truly amazing game, and result, the sidelines littered with a very proud set of parents and grand parents, lead by a very proud manager and coach. In fact this result made everyones weekend. Brilliant result, every team member played like a hero from start to finish, a well deserved victory and will be the 1st of many from this up and coming very young yet eager under 10′s team.

The long awaited 3rd game of the season was here and the Wyrley Puma’s under
10′s girls made the extra training sessions shine through on the pitch.
There really was nothing between the 2 sides throughout the whole game,
other than a couple of fine finishes from the panthers forwards. The puma’s
girls a year younger and smaller than their opposition did not show through
in performance, every individual on the pitch pulled together to produce a
fine team performance, Libby Thornly immense again between the posts for the
pumas a really confident and composed performance, with first class saves
and even better distribution to her team mates. Maise Smith, Olivia Babb and
captain Danny Machen played with resilience and no fear at the back their
excellent positional play and distribution made it extremely difficult for
the opposition to break down. Going forward the Pumas are starting to look
dangerous, the panthers opposition simply couldn’t deal with the excellence
of Sophie Willis and man of the Match Chloe Birch who are without doubt 2 of
the best players currently in this league. The pumas went 2 goals behind,
before pulling one back through Sophie Willis slotting home a fine move
started from defence to attack, having stuck the post a couple of times the
pumas really had the panthers on the rack, had the Pumas converted their 2nd
half penalty the score line may have ended up very different, never the less
a fantastic improvement from all the players and the final score 3-1 to the
panthers was certainly not an easy win for them, and as we move through the
season I can see the younger pumas continuing to close the gap to their
older, bigger and stronger opposition. The pumas should all be very proud of
the performance on Saturday, from Goal keeper to substitutes they all
deserve great credit for the improvements they have made – Well done team.

James Babb

Squad : Goalkeeper – Libby Thornly, Defence – Masie Smith (Elouise Rowlands
2nd half), Danny Machen (Captain), Olivia Babb, Midfield – Chloe Birch (Man
of match), Aimee-Leigh Phillips (Tia Holgate 2nd half) Forward-Sophie Willis
(1 goal).

The long awaited start of the season was here and the sun glared down as the under 10′s Wyrley Pumas started their footballing journey. Playing away to Brownhills Colts who to their credit had a full 12 months under their belt which in the 1st half reflected the scoreline (5-0). In the second half there was some fine displays from the newly formed Pumas, with some excellent work from the players the team started to gel in the 1st 10 minutes, a much improved defensive display and a fine solo goal from Chloe Birch. Player of the match Maisie Smith delivered a fine display in defence. Whilst the colts managed a further 2 goals in the 2nd half, the Pumas goalkeeper Libby Thornley made some fantastic stops to demonstrate to the manager her worth between the posts. Whilst the final score was 7-1 to the Colts, Wyrley Pumas demonstrated glimpses of what the will go on to achieve with further games. The team oozed passion as did the fantastic support from friends and family on the sidelines. Overall the Pumas have laid down a pretty solid foundation to build from in coming weeks, which I am sure will be reflected in future results.
