The Mens 1st Team continued their unbeaten pre-season campaign with a hard fought 2-2 draw against Team Dudley.

Wyrley took the lead in the 1st minute through Reis Nadat’s smart finish after a clever pass from Stefan Gordon. Team Dudley equalised just before the break and the scores were level at half time.

Wyrley again rang the changes at half time with 10 substitutions and they took the lead for a second time when Steve McMahon turned neatly in the box and fired into the top corner from 15 yards. Team Dudley refused to give in though and they got a deserved equaliser late in the game from a corner.

The last friendly for the 1st Team is on Wednesday evening away to Newport Town before the start of the season next Saturday at home against AFC Wombourne United.

The Mens 1st Team continued their impressive start to Pre-Season with their second consecutive 2-0 win over Red Star Alma.

New signing Ryan Bell opened the scoring halfway through the half when a deep free kick was excellently headed back across goal by Reis Nadat to allow Bell to volley home.

Wyrley again made 9 changes at half time and they wrapped up the victory ten minutes from time with the second goal when they defended an Alma corner well and managed to counter attack. A good exchange of passes between Danny Dolman and Steve Jones resulted in the ball finding Chris Geldart who controlled and volleyed home from 12 yards.

Another good performance by all involved and Wyrley continue their Pre-Season campaign on Saturday against Team Dudley at the Dell Stadium, Dudley.

Wyrley had the better of the first half and deservedly lead at the break thanks to 2 well taken goals from new signing Scott Sjoerdsma. Wyrley then made 9 changes at the break and although Stafford had the wind as an advantage, Wyrley continued to play the better football throughout.

A fantastic effort from all involved and Wyrley will hope to continue this good start when they entertain Red Star Alma on Tuesday night at The Long Lane Ground.

It is with regret that I have to announce that the Mens 1st Team Kit Man, Mick Denny, sadly passed away in the early hours of this morning.

Mick had been involved with the 1st Team for the last 5 years and although he had been poorly throughout the last season he still made it to a few games and stayed in touch.

Armed with a sharp sense of humour, Mick was a great character to have around the changing room and he was very fondly thought of by the Management Team and all of the Players.

RIP Mick you will be sadly missed.

After a terrible performance last week against the league leaders, Wyrley entertained 3rd placed Blackheath Town on Saturday. Callum Humphries was welcomed back in goal after his birthday celebrations and Dan Kalinski returned from studies. On a much better surface this week the game got off to a lively start with both teams looking to attack. Blackheath were a bit predictable and Wyrley began to win the midfield, Wright and Fowler working hard with Dolman supporting well. The lead was taken when Bromley found Geldart on the right his cross was met by Fowler who looked as though he was going to head it but chested it down and volleyed home. Soon it was 2-0 Bromley played a lovely little pass into Geldart inside the box, he beat 2 players and pulled the ball back for Bromley to hit home. Wyrley were now buzzing. A pass back from Bowater was misjudged by Humphries but fortunately the ball went wide, minutes later Humphries made up for his error when he made a fantastic stop. Some delightful football between Dolman and Geldart resulted in Bromley having a fine volley saved well by the ‘keeper. When Wyrley again opened up Blackheath down the right Geldart’s cross was met by Fowler but the defender climbed all over him and a penalty was awarded. Dolman stepped up and duly despatched the ball away.

Half time 3-0

The second half began with Wyrley getting a bit over confident and trying too hard and this meant a scrappy first 15 minutes. Eventually though they got back into the rythmn of simple passing, moving and supporting mixed with some great skills in the right areas. Midway through the half Bromley crossed and Geldart volleyed home the 4th goal. Changes were made and Myatt replaced the impressive Kalinski and Bromley was replaced after being booked. A lovely dummy from Wright saw the ball run to Fowler who played a superb ball through for Geldart to lash home. Steve Foster came on for his brother Stuart. To their credit Blackheath continued to push and were rewarded when a cross was ‘chested’ down and hit home although everyone knew it had been handled. Wyrley stayed on track though and in the dying minutes Geldart completed a second half hat-trick when he cut in from the right and scored off the far post. All in all a great result, not just for the scoreline but for the attitude of every player and the style of football played.

Wyrley; Humphries: Bowater, Foster (Stuart) capt, Brough, Bevan; Wright, Fowler; Dolman; Geldart, Kalinski; Bromley.

Wyrley produced a fine performance in this league cup clash and deservedly ran out winners. on a heavy pitch both sides struggled to pass the ball around but Wyrley settled earlier. Neither side were able to dominate, but eventually Wyrley began to dominate the midfield with Fowler and Wright very industrious. Meanwhile Geldart on the left was starting to be a serious threat. the defence were coping comfortably and eventually reward came. Following a half cleared free kick Bowater picked the ball up on the right of Hanwoods box, he wriggled past 2 defenders and crossed, Dolman dummied and the ball ran to Chris Fowler on the edge of the area, he cooly picked his spot and placed the ball well beyond the keeper. the remainder of the half was played out in similiar fashion.

Half time Wyrley 1 Hanwood 0

No changes were made by either side for the start of the second half and neither was there a change in the pattern of play. Hanwood had little to offer and it was only a matter of time before Wyrley would score again. The first changes were made when Hanwood made a double sub after 10 minutes, pushing on 2 big forwards. The expected onslaught never came though as they simply could not get hold of enough ball. The winning goal came when Dolman played a ball from just outside his own box to Geldart out on the left, he skinned past his opponent and played a one -two again with Dolman., advancing deep into Hanwood territory he cut the ball back and who was there to finish but Dolman. A fine goal. The game panned out and with 15 minutes left the very hard working Martin was replaced by Myatt. Martin’s second half was his best this season. Two more subs were made before time and it was nice to see Steve Foster get some more minutes into his legs as he continues on the road to fitness, also pleasing was Jamie Fowler getting stronger again as he too searches for full fitness. A good result and lets hope Wyrley can produce the same performance and result when they travel to Hanwood this Saturday for a league match.

Full time 2-0

After last weeks disappointment at Shenstone, Wyrley welcomed Sporting Khalsa on Saturday and then shared a game spoilt by too many cards. Khalsa settled first and began putting early pressure on but the home defence stood strong, The first booking came after only 5 minutes when Dolman was booked for arguing about the distance of a defensive wall. The game settled a bit but then Bowater was booked for what seemed an innocuous challenge. After 25 minutes he was booked again when he bought down a Khalsa player on the halfway line and was subsequently dismissed. Wyrley had to reshuffle and Azza Wright moved to full back. With 10 men Wyrley more than held their own and with half time approaching were looking to go in on level terms, however it was not to be as Khalsa took the lead.

Half time 0-1

No changes were made by Wyrley at the break and neither by the ref as he continued to book Wyrley players. Wyrley though looked the stronger side and equalised when Foster took a free kick from 30 yards out and Brough looked to have got a touch to deflect it past the ‘keeper however he later credited the goal to Foster. 15 minutes later Wyrley took the lead when Moore spotted the goalie off his line and lobbed him from way out. In the meantime Brough went in the book for a foul. Wyrley then sent on Darby for Asa Wright and within a minute he joined the bookings when he retaliated after a terrible late tackle, this also resulted in a rare booking for Khalsa. Wyrley were playing the better game and with full time looming were heading for victory, the ref wasn’t finished though and booked Geldart dor a soft looking push. With 2 minutes to go Khalsa produced the goal of the match, a break down the right was finished with a tremendous shot across Humphries that left him with no chance and Khalsa got a share of the spoils.

Full time 2-2
