Wyrley continued their unbeaten run as they won their 3rd consecutive away game running out comfortable winners in the end against what were an unbeaten Green Heath side.

For the second week running Wyrley were awarded two penalties, both won by Josh Griffiths. Wyrley started the better of the two teams on a difficult pitch playing with a good tempo and always looking dangerous.

Wyrley took the lead when the commanding & composed Ashley Gunn pinged a 40 yard through ball beyond the left back for Josh Griffiths to control brilliantly first time, advance and slide it past the opposing keeper. Matthew Higgs had a great chance to increase the lead following another run and low cross by Griffiths but Higgs’ shot was deflected just round the post.

Green Heath equalised against the run of play when Wyrley failed to adequately defend a long ball and it was well finished from outside the box giving James Goddard no chance.

Wyrley regained the lead when Jay Brown played the ball in to Matt Moseley who “dummied” for Josh Griffiths to smash the ball high into the net giving the keeper no chance. Dan Bourke had the opportunity to increase the lead further when Josh Griffiths was brought down but Dan hit the ball wide from the resulting kick.

Green Heath then equalised for the second time with a shot from outside the area that took a deflection of Andy Clayton and went in off the post.

The third goal was quality as Matt Moseley received the ball from a throw in, beat the centre half for pace and crossed expertly for Josh Griffiths to rise & head home for his second hatrick of the season.

Wyrley continued to defend the long ball from the opposing keeper with Gunn & Clayton winning everything in the air. As the game progressed and opened up Wyrley took advantage as Josh Griffiths was tripped as he took the ball round the full back and win his second penalty. Mark Whitehouse stepped up & put away the penalty with great composure.

Nathan Reeves & Jay Brown both tested the keeper as Wyrley controlled the last 20 minutes with some excellent play as Joe Waclawski in particular showed great compsure and passing ability with both feet to open up the defence time and again.

Well done lads !

Wyrley made it 7 points from 9 and consecutive away wins as they deservedly beat Churchill Vic.

The excellent Jay Brown won the first of two penalties which skipper Dan Bourke put away. Before then Josh Griffiths blazed over and Matt Moseley had an effort saved by the keepers legs. Dan Bourke had his free kick turned roun the post.

Wyrley had to battle hard and rode their luck in the first half as they had to deal with a succession of long throws on a narrow pitch and against the wind.

James Goddard made a Gordon Banks like save to get down low to his right and tip a header over the bar. Next he tipped over a shot from outside the area.

The lead was doubled when Jay Brown took a quick free kick down the left for the ever dangerous Matt Moseley to beat the full back before being fouled inside the box. Dan Bourke smashed home his second pen.

In the second half Wyrley dominated for long spells and played some super football. Matt Moseley scored the third to seal the points.

There were numerous other chances as Churchill struggled to cope with the flowing pace attacks. Opposing keeper pulled off a fine one handed save to tip round Josh Griffiths clever lob. Pav Khera had a long range effort saved. Jon Lawrie hit a fine effort just over from 30 yards.

Churchill had their chances also as the game drew to a close but James Goddard deserved his clean sheet.

Team: 4-4-2
Goddard, Higgs, Clayton (A), Gunn, Crook, Clayton (M) (Waclawski), Bourke, Brown, Griffiths, Moseley (Khera), Shail (Lawrie) Subs: Wright, Reeves.

A draw was a fair result but Wyrley will be disappointed with the result.

Wyrley had the better of the early exchanges with the best chance falling to Dan Bourke who beat a player for pace in the box but his well hit effort smahed against the Nags bar.

Wyrley took the lead when a quick free kick from Mark Whitehouse picked up the well made run by Nigel Crook whose header was only parried by ex Wryley man Jame Walker for Crook to side foot home the rebound.

Nags had several long balls & corners which were all well dealt with by Andy Clayton, Ashley Gunn and keeper James Goddard as Wyrley allowed Nags too much time on the ball.

Nags started the second half better and equalised with a super long range effort that gave Goddard no chance.

There were very few clear chances throughout the game. Nags had one effort from outside the box which Goddard saved but others that came fell to Wyrley as they finished the match stronger.

Mikey Clayton had a well hit shot from 30 yards tipped round the post. Nathan Reeves had his right foot effort saved by the feet of Walker and another overhead kick that went just over the bar. Josh Griffiths met Dan Bourke’s cross but headed over from close range.

Wyrley got their first points on the board with a stunning reaction to last weeks 5-0 defeat, beating Athletico Bridge by the same score.

Athletico struggled to live with the high quality and blistering pace of the Wyrley attacks and the game was effectively over by half time as Wyrley raced into a 4-0 lead.

The scoring started when the returning Dan Bourke won a tackle deep in his own half, played a neat one-two with Luke Shail and released Josh Griffiths down the right. Josh crossed low, the full back failed to clear and Matt Moseley took one touch, created space and blasted in from close range.

Ageless Andy Clayton then set up the second with a through ball that Mark Whitehouse cleverly controlled before advancing into the box and scoring through the keepers legs.

The third goal started with the keeper James Goddard keeping calm and passing the ball out of defence. Wyrley worked the ball up to Josh Griffiths who cooly slotted past the keeper. Dan Bourke then created the fourth, robbing the full back and sliding the ball across for Josh Griffiths to make no mistake.

Early in the second half Joe Waclawski played in Josh Griffiths, who still had plenty to do to complete his first ever hatrick.

Ashley Gunn & Andy Clayton won everything at the back, being supported well by Jeff Wright, Matthew Higgs & Joe Waclawski. Behind them well done to James Goddard for keeping a clean sheet.

Dan Bourke & Luke Shail worked tirelessly in midfield with Mark Whitehouse adding the grit that we had missed in the first two league games.

Mike Clayton & Jay Brown both showed excellent composure, ball control and passing ability. Overall a very pleasing performance that needs to be repeated next week in our first home game against Noah’s Ark.

A quick thank you also to Bob & Julie at the New Talbot for laying on sausage & chips – much appreciated by all.

Team: 4-4-2
Goddard, Higgs, Clayton (A), Gunn, Wright, Shail, Whitehouse, Bourke, Clayton (M) (Brown), Griffiths, Moseley (Waclawski).

Wyrley Juniors slipped to their second consecutive 6-2 home defeat, last week it was Uxbridge, this week bogey team Winding Wheel. Scorers last week being Moseley & Coates.

Wyrley were simply second best in the early exchanges and fell behind to 2 goals, both from corners that should have been defended better. The first was headed in from within the 6 yard box and the second inswinger went straight in evading Durbin & Pollard. In between, Crook broke through midfield and played in Matt Moseley who di everything right as he lobbed the keeper but also the bar.

The Winding Wheel third goal came from a quick break after Wyrley had been on the attack. The ball was cleared to the left wing, picked up by the Wheel striker who somehow got passed Durbin to advance into the box and cooly slot past Pollard.

Wyrley pulled a goal back when the Wheel centre backs clashed and one of them headed passed their keeper to make the half-time score 3-1.

After a half-time roasting Wyrley then conceeded a fourth goal when like last week the opposing striker was given too much time to pick up the ball from a throw in, turn and hit a speculative shot into the corner of the net.

Wyrley then came to life and created numerous chances and corner after corner in a 20 minute purple patch. From one such corner taken by Faherty, Crook rose at the far post to head firmlyinto the net.

Adam Green then cut in from the left and hit the bar. The sam player dribbled through the defence to be pulled down, get up himself and take the free kick that was tipped round the post. Liam Faherty had another corner headed off the line for a corner, this one was then taken by centre half Whitehouse and Crook should have done better but instead the ball glanced off to safety.

Mayhem in the Wheel box then ensued, as Sam Burkett pulled the ball back to Crook who had his shot cleared off the line, the ball rebounded to Moseley whose volley was also cleared off the line and eventually the ball was cleared. A goal at 4-2 would have made the finish interesting.

However, Wyrley then fell further behind as Pollard came out to claim a long ball but was beaten to it by the Wheel striker who rounded Pollard and slotted the ball into an empty net. The sixth goal followed as Wyrley failed to clear a corner and the ball fell kindly for the Wheel player to hit low into the net.

Wyrley hope to get back to winning ways against Hen House away next week.

Wyrley Juniors progressed to the 4th round of the Cannock Chase Charity Cup against club colleagues INEX.

INEX had by far the better of the first half and deservedly went ahead midway through the half, as the centre forward rounded keeper Pollard. INEX continued to have the majority of possession without creating any clear-cut chances, only long range efforts that Pollard was able to deal with, turning one effort superbly round his right post.

In a competitive encounter, Mark Whitehouse and the INEX striker were booked, before a cross by Mike Clayton was retrieved by Crook, rolled back to Tom Garbett who struck a low shot to the keepers left that was saved well. Half-time 3-0.

The returning Liam Faherty cam on at half time for James Arnold, but it appeared to have little impact as INEX continued to press and increased their lead from a corner. Andy Clayton appeared to be fouled as the INEX player rose and headed against the bar, but reacted well to head high into the net. INEX then missed a golden opportunity as the centre forward blasted wide from 6 yards.

With the potent Adam Green and Matt Moseley now playing up front together the game changed on the hour mark as a long ball through the middle saw the INEX centre back fail to find his keeper with a back header and Moseley pounced to take it round the keeper.

The goal gave Wyrley the boost they needed. A cross by Paul Durbin reached Crook who played the ball inside the full back for the advancing Wright to strike a great effort, only to see it pushed away by the keeper. The ball fell into the path of Matthew Higgs who blasted high & wide.

Wyrley equalised when a long ball by Mark Whitehouse reached Green who showed great strength and composure as he hit the ball low to the keepers left.

Matt Moseley proved to be the hero as he used his thrilling pace to latch onto a Whitehouse free kick advance into the box and find the right hand corner of the net, his 10th of the season.

It was too late for INEX as they failed to show signs of getting back in the game with Wyrley finishing the stronger side.

Team: 4-4-2
Pollard, Higgs, Wright, Whitehouse, Clayton (A), Clayton (M) (Binsley), Crook, Garbett (Durbin), Green, Moseley, Arnold (Faherty).
Subs: Durbin, Binsley, Faherty.

Our first game since 13th December saw Wyrley ease to victory against lowly Cannock & Rugeley. It could have been more but for a host of chances being missed.

Playing down the slope, Wyrley took advantage and went ahead after 5 minutes as Matt Moseley picked up the ball on the left edge of the penalty area and curled a super shot over the helpless keeper.

Wyrley increased their lead from a Mike Clayton corner with the ball being played back to Tom Garbett, whose shot was turned into the net by Lee Garrington, making it 2 goals in 2 games for him.

To their credit C&R kept attacking and did create a few half chances and so a third goal just before half time was welcome. It came from another Mike Clayton corner that Mark Whitehouse met to head home expertly with the ball slightly behind him, 2 in 2 for Mark too ! Half-time 3-0.

Playing uphill on a heavy pitch was always going to be a different story. However, Adam Green, Matt Moseley & Lee Garrington continued to torment the C&R defence. Graham Pollard made one outstanding save low down to his left and had safe hands all game to earn a welcome clean sheet; supported ably by the solid defence in front of him with Jeff Wright having a super game at left back.

Wyrley eventually increased their lead as Green was released down the left and his strong run ended with him crossing low for Garrington to have the simple task of tapping in from 6 yards.

We look forward to entertaining our club colleagues Inex Wyrley Juniors next week in the Cup.

After losing to AFC Globe 2-1 last week, with Tom Garbett grabbing his first goal of the season, Wyrley got back to winning ways with a 4-1 victory in the Cup.

With Nigel Crook & Danny Coates back in the middle of the park, Wyrley dominated early proceedings and it was these two who were influential in the first goal. Coates hit a 30 yard left foot shot which the keeper failed to hold and Crook followed in to take the ball round the keeper and slot home.

After 15 minutes Wyrley increased their lead as Crook headed cleanly home from a superb Mike Clayton corner.

Wyrley suffered a set back as Liam Faherty clashed with the keeper and had to go off with a broken collar bone – disappointed not to having won a penalty ! Sam Burkett came on and worked hard in an unfamiliar position.

Wyrley then continued to play some entertaining football on a heavy pitch, being well in cotrol of the game. Just before half time Matt Moseley continued his recent goalscoring form with a well finished effort, lifting the ball over the keeper. Half-time 3-0.

The second half saw C&R change tactics and throw caution to the wind with 3 up front. They duly pulled a goal back as a left wing cross-come shot sailed over Pollard into the net. Wyrley struggled to get to grips with the new formation but as the half wore on, great effort by the lads, with Mike Clayton and Tom Garbett doing particularly well, saw Wyrley re-gain some control.

Matt Moseley grabbed his second of the game with another fine finish as the ever-reliable defence of Andy Clayton, Mark Whitehouse and Jeff Wright stood firm again to close out the game.

Wyrley extended their unbeaten run in the league to 5 with a battling performance against Prairie Farm. As last week Wyrley suffered pre-match set backs with Michael Clayton & Liam Faherty unavailable.

Wind conditions throughout the game did not allow for flowing football but both teams put on an entertaining encounter. Prairie played a dangerous, high line and when Green played inside to Crook, he released Matt Moseley down the left flank, who used his pace to advance, cut inside and hit a fine shot which the keeper turned round for a corner.

Prairie played some neat football to work a clear opportunity for the centre forward, who had time to pick his spot only to be flagged offside much to the annoyance of the opposition.

The pace of Moseley and flamboyance of Green continued to trouble the young Prairie defence but only half chances were forthcoming and much the same for Prairie as half-time came with the score 0-0.

Wyrley were given a half-time roasting for poor pre-match preparation, poor work rate, poor communication and basic helping one another out. Hopefully the end result showed this to be the right decision, even though Wyrley came from behind.

Tom Garbett tracked back well to knock the ball out for a corner under pressure from the winger. The outswinging corner was flicked into the net from about 10 yards giving the keeper, Pollard, no chance. Almost immediately Moseley broke down the right only to be fouled just outside the box. Green took the free kick, low and hard into the box for Whitehouse to hit the ball right footed into the corner of the net.

The game then continued to flow end to end but with few clear cut chances. Pollard saved brilliantly from one long range effort, tipping over the bar. With just under 20 minutes to go, Arnold replaced Burkett, who had worked tirelessly. Arnold made an immediate impact up front, with some fine touches and excellent passing, often releasing the dangerous Moseley.

With just 2 minutes to go Whitehouse cleared a ball, hopefully upfield, where Matt Moseley had found space. Matt beat the full back easily for pace and advanced into the box. Prairie’s keeper came out well, only for Moseley to lift the ball confidently over the keeper into the net as 2 defenders tried to get back and clear – a brilliant finish – 4 in 4 games for Matt.

Wyrley then kept the ball well in the final few minutes and when Prairie did get the ball forward the solid defence of Mark Whitehouse and Andy Clayton ensured there was no way through. As the opponents said after the game the old heads combined with youthful exuberance, worked well as Wyrley turned a game they probably didn’t deserve to win into exactly that – WELL DONE LADS.

Wyrley hope to continue winning ways against AFC Globe, at home, next week.
