The details for the format of this year’s Presentation Nights in the Stadium and Bonser Suites at Walsall FC’s Banks’s Stadium have now been finalised.
Entrance is by cash payment at the door – £3 for adults with non player children £1. Every person entering will have their hand stamped as proof of payment, which must be shown when reentering the room. Each team will be allocated 3 tables of 12 seats each for non players. These will be signposted.
Each night has been organised into 2 shifts (see dates and shifts below for details of which night and time each team has been allocated).
Shift 1 starts at 7.30 – players and family need to be in the Suite by 7.15 please.
Shift 2 starts at 8.30 – players and family need to be ready to enter the Suite at 8.15 please. Whilst shift 1 is taking place a penalty shoot out for each team in Shift 2 (except for May 6th night) will be organised on the astro turf adjacent to the Suite, which is available from 7.00 onwards.
As Shift 2 teams are having their trophies presented, Shift 1 players will move to the astro turf for their penalty shoot out and then return to the room at 9.15.
Penalty Shoot-out winners will receive trophies, presented later in the evening.
Players will be sat with their teams in rows in front of the stage.
Player trophies will be laid out for each team by the committee.
Players’ Player and Manager’s Player trophies will be available from me in the week before each night if managers wish to have them engraved. No other trophies will be presented – teams may organise their own team presentation nights to do this.
There will be a bottle raffle – each team to bring a prize. Bottles to be left with security in the entrance lobby.
Swifty will hopefully be present at the Presentation nights and Wyrley Bear will be present at all nights.
There will be a professional photographer on site to take individual and team photos. There will be a disco until 12.00 after the presentation.
Strictly NO food or drink to be taken into the room!

Sunday 9 May 2010

Another battling performance today by Panthers, maintaining their unbeaten run. Despite early pressure from Danesmore, Panthers began to work their way back into the game and took the lead on 15 minutes. Dominic Cella saw his shot beat the keeper but crash back off the underside of the bar and with Lewis Ansell following in it was Joshua Eyre with a cultured left foot volley that looped over the keeper who scored the opening goal. However, after some sloppy defending, Danesmore were soon level. Panthers continued to work hard to create chances and it was James O’Brien with a fantastic 35 yard volley, straight from a kick from the Danesmore keeper, arguably the goal of the season, who put Panthers 2-1 up just 5 minutes before the break. Again, Panthers were indecisive at the back and a great Danesmore strike, over the head of helpless keeper James Walters, made it 2-2 at half time.

In the 2nd half, Danesmore began the brighter of the two teams and had Panthers on the back foot right from the start. Their pressure paid off as they took the lead after 10 minutes and could easily have been further ahead had their finishing been more clinical. When Panthers were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal on 20 minutes, up stepped Andy Vaughan to hit an unstoppable shot high over the keeper and into the roof of the net to level things up at 3-3. Within minutes, after some good work down the right from Owen Davies, Joshua Erye hit a first time shot from outside the box into the top corner for his second of the game to put Panthers into a 4-3 lead. However, Panthers were caught on the break just before the end and conceded an equaliser, which although disappointing, was probably a fair reflection of the game overall.

A great game of end-to-end football today with Panthers scoring 4 superb goals all from distance. A win in our last home game next week against Brewood will see us finish top of the group in the Diamond Trophy, and result in an unbeaten run of 9 games since 14 February to finish the season.

Sunday 2 May 2010

Panthers went into their final league game of the season, in the knowledge that anything other than a defeat to the already crowned league winners would see them finish in 3rd place. In very windy conditions, both sides battled hard to create chances early on and neither side really threatened to score. Both defences were solid and with Andy Reynolds having a great first half for Panthers. James O’Brien and Owen Davies in midfield battled well to stifle a well drilled Shire Oak side and Oliver Davis, standing in at centre back was also in fine form. Lewis Ansell and Dominic Cella up front both showed good touches but Panthers lacked penetration in front of goal and the half ended at 0-0.
In the second half, again the conditions did not help either side and Panthers found it difficult to display any of the flowing football they had shown in recent weeks. Luke Ayres and Andy Vaughan at the back remained resolute for Panthers and Joshua Eyre found space wide on the left which caused Shire Oak problems. Panthers continued to battle hard and denied their opponents time on the ball with George Coldicott being especially effective in tracking back and winning important tackles towards the end. With 5 minutes to go Shire Oak won 3 successive corners which were all well dealt with by the Panthers defence, followed by some excellent saves by keeper James Walters to the delight of the Panthers parents. With just the bare 11 today and a couple of injured players at the end, Panthers held on to earn the point which ensured 3rd place in the league and, although the game finished 0-0, it was pleasing to see the desire and commitment shown by the lads today. A few months ago, we would have lost a game like this, but today they all battled well for each other right to the final whistle and showed a great spirit they can all be proud of.

In the second half, Bentley began brightly, however Panthers work rate increased and they began to overpower Bentley with some good positive football. Dominic Cella was denied his hat-trick by the linesman’s flag when he headed home, and Panthers had a second goal disallowed for offside when Owen Davies hit a low shot past the keeper when clean through. With the majority of the play in Bentley’s half now, Panthers created a number of chances and it was Lewis Ansell who made the game safe with a low left foot strike to put Panthers 3-1 up with 8 minutes to go.

Sunday 18 April 2010

Another good performance today, with a 3rd successive clean sheet. The game began with both teams creating several half chances but the defences remained tight and gave nothing away. However, it was Danesmore who had the clearest chance to go ahead in the 20th minute when their striker was brought down by Andy Vaughan and the ref awarded a penalty. Despite a solid strike, the ball grazed the crossbar and went over to keep the score at 0-0. Panthers had a number of free kicks towards the end of the first half but were unable to penetrate a solid Danesmore defence.
After the break, Panthers were much brighter and seemed to really step up their game to a higher level. Keeper James Walters was almost redundant in goal as Panthers dominated in midfield and took the lead on 37 minutes when an Andy Vaughan free kick evaded the Danesmore defenders and keeper and crept in low at the far post. It was no more than Panthers deserved and, within 5 minutes, they increased their lead when some excellent work from Lewis Ansell resulted in him dispossessing a defender, rounding the keeper and curling a shot with the outside of his foot from an acute angle into the net for a 2-0 lead.
It was just reward for the effort that Panthers put into the opening period of the second half, and with Luke Ayres making some great runs from left back, Panthers continued to pile the pressure on Danesmore but without further reward in terms of goals.
Overall, an excellent display of patience and determination from the lads today, taking us up to 4th place in the league. A draw against unbeaten Shire Oak in our final league game in 2 weeks time, will guarantee a 3rd place finish and cap a tremendous end to the season. With 4 wins and a draw in our last 5 games, and 3 consecutive clean sheets, the lads have stuck together after a challenging mid-season period, and have shown that with desire and effort, they have the ability to beat anyone on their day.

Sunday 11 April 2010
Panthers went into today’s game looking to extend their unbeaten run to 4 games. Having already beaten Park Hill 3-1 just 4 weeks ago, Panthers began confidently and worked hard to create a number of half chances early on with forwards George Coldicott and Dominic Cella both going close. After 10 minutes, Panthers were awarded a free kick in a central position, about 25 yards from goal and Owen Davies stepped up to hit an unstoppable shot high into the Park Hill net to put Panthers 1-0 up. James O’Brien, playing wide on the right, was in fine form, making some great runs into the Park Hill box and was unlucky to see a shot go wide after good work from Dean Watton. Park Hill created a few opportunities on the break and a great save from James Walters just before half time, reacting well to palm a deflected shot round the post, helped to maintain Panthers 1-0 lead going into half time.
Within a few minutes of the restart, Owen Davies tested the keeper with another long range effort which he just managed to reach and prevent from going over the line. Shortly after, George Coldicott was brought down wide on the left, and from the resultant free kick, Andy Vaughan, playing his first game since November, struck a sweet shot towards the far post which went straight in to give Panthers a deserved 2-0 lead. Panthers continued to dominate with some tremendous forward runs from full back Luke Ayres, linking well with the midfield and forwards.
Panthers remained solid at the back with Oliver Davis and Owen Cartridge not giving anything away, and Lewis Ansell anchoring the middle of the park. Late on, Dominic Cella had a great chance to wrap things up when through on his own, but the Park Hill keeper made it difficult and denied him with a smart save.
Another good solid display today, unbeaten now in 4 games with 3 wins. With 2 league games to go, 2 more wins will ensure a top 3 finish, so keep it going lads.

Sunday 28 March 2010

After a win and a draw in their last 2 games, Panthers began confidently in their first home fixture since December. Despite the majority of the play being in the Brewood half, Panthers were unable to create any clear cut chances during the first half, other than an Owen Davies free kick that beat the Brewood keeper but which was disallowed for offside. Both defences were giving nothing away with Andy Reynolds and Luke Ayres solid at full back for Panthers against some tricky Brewood wingers, and Dominic Cella having a good chance saved at the other end. The first half proved fairly uneventful and ended with both sides going into the break level at 0-0.
The second half was a different story, with Panthers playing some flowing football right from the start with James O’Brien and George Coldicott creating some excellent chances early on. After 5 minutes, a run into the box from George Coldicott led to him being brought down and the resultant penalty was clinically despatched by Joshua Eyre into the roof of the net to put Panthers 1-0 up. Panthers confidence was clearly boosted by this goal, and another foul just outside the box on George Coldicott, led to Owen Davies’s free kick being spilled by the keeper and Owen Cartridge followed up to strike the ball home into on open net for a 2-0 lead. Panthers defence, with Oliver Davis solid at centre half, was rarely called upon and, when Dean Watton slotted home with a sweet turn and left foot shot for his first goal for the team to make it 3-0, the game was as good as over. Lewis Ansell went close a couple of times with long range efforts, but it was George Coldicott who deservedly finished the scoring, beating the Brewood keeper from just inside the box with a looping shot into the corner.
Overall another good performance from the lads today, and a special mention to a very pleased James Walters in goal who kept his first clean sheet of the season.
