Wyrley Meerkats 4 v 0 Stafford Town

Meerkat`s rounded off this seasons League campaign in fine form against a strong Stafford side. With the sun shining and the promise of pizza`s and garlic bread after the game. it didn`t take long for Wyrley to get into their stride. Meerkats were looking dangerous, playing some great free flowing football with Mya “the magician” Sidhu conjuring up some great runs down the left, whilst avoiding some desperate tackles from the opposition.

Ten minutes into the game and an in-swinging corner from Erin “the General” Waddilove took a cruel deflection off a defender to open the scoring. 1v0 Meerkats!!

The second goal came from a cool Milly “Dodger” Rogers finish inside the box, followed by another stunner from “The General” to make it 3v0 before half time.

Meerkats had dominated a very physical first half without Stafford really threatening Skye “Loco” Lee`s goal.

With a few player`s carrying “knocks”, the team was re-shuffled with Harley “the Rock” Barker and Sophie “the Terminator” Marlowe coming on to protect their lead.

Meerkats had to go into the second half (woman up!!!) and match Stafford’s aggression. Instructions followed – “get tackles in quicker” “hard but fair”.

Solid defensive performances from Molly “the Bouncer” Cattell, Millie “Stonewall” Sturch and Abi “De-Lap” Clay made sure that Stafford couldn`t get back into the game and the tireless box to box work of Eloise “the Engine” Yates, Faith “Mouse” Youd, Ellie “the Enforcer” Parker and Mel “Mini” Cooper resulted in more chances being created for the home side.

Katie “Peggy” Mitchell and Sophie “Speedy” Willis put the away team under more pressure and they conceded again when Mya “the Magician” Sidhu slotted the ball home following some great saves from the Stafford goalkeeper.

Manager and Parents player of the Match went to Mel “Mini” Cooper for a terrier like first half performance.
