Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U13’s Season 2013-14
Lichfield League Shield Division 1.
Rugeley Rangers 2 v 5 Wyrley Juniors United.
This was a repeat of our first game of the season, only this time United managed to turn the tables on Rangers, However it may be said that the scoreline may be flattered United a little. The game was quite even from the outset but Wyrley went close through Tom Wheeldon early on and he proved to be a thorn in the side for the Rangers defence. A few minutes later Wheeldon went clear and he worked the keeper, who only managed to deflect his shot back to the striker to side foot into an empty net. With a strong wind at United’s back the majority of chances fell their way, Charlie Street, Wheeldon and Lewis Hill all went close for United, but at the other end of the pitch, Wyrley man of the match Jack Addison made a couple of telling saves, to help maintain United’s lead. Just before half time Yazzine Oakley finished just inside the box to double United’s lead, the half time whistle followed shortly after. Rangers came out all guns blazing after the break and put United on the back foot, It must be said that Tom Rowlands and Sam Cottrell competed well at the back, supported well by John McDermott and Alex price, but then the pacey Rangers striker cut into the box to coolly take his chance to get Rangers back into the game. United reacted well and were always a threat on the break and Wheeldon was on hand again to restore United’s 2 goal lead. United broke again soon after and Wheeldon claimed a deserved hat-trick strike, this left Rangers a little deflated but to their credit they never stopped battling and even though Oakley hit his second, which his hard work and support play merited, Rangers still pushed on to keep Addison on his toes in the United goal and got further consolation when they neatly struck a penalty kick. The game finished a few minutes later. There were some excellent contributions too from Sam Foreman, Liam Morley, Tom Peacock and Brad Thomas in the United midfield.
