Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U15’s Season 2015-16
League Div 1:- Wyrley Juniors United 3 v Beacon Colts 1
Back into league action today after a 4 month break, how things change in a short space of time as United fielded 6 different players from the team that started the previous season. The first part of the half saw United getting to grips with their new combinations and establishing new partnerships, Beacon’s shape was a better one at this stage of the game as they used an extra man in midfield well but also passed the ball well. Beacon work very hard too and this paid off for them after about 20 minutes when a well struck free kick dipped and bounced awkwardly in front of Callum Mowe in the United goal, who just unfortunately couldn’t prevent the ball crossing the line. United woke up from this moment on and began to move the ball well in all areas of the pitch, a few half chances were created but nothing seriously tested the keeper. Beacon weren’t afraid to put their bodies on the line to maintain the lead and blocked well a couple of goal bound efforts from the busy and creative Reece Wall, Liam Morley playing well too in the centre of the park. United switched to a five man midfield leaving Tom Wheeldon up top on his own, this allowed Cory Crutchley to see more of the ball. Crutchley got United back into the game a few minutes before half time, he picked the ball up on the edge of the box and decided to run at the defence, he danced past two challenges before getting a break off the third one, the ball fell nicely for him and Crutchley made no mistake. Half-time gave United the opportunity to regroup a little, the game was pretty even for the first 15-20 minutes of the second half. Callum Mowe made a couple of decent stops as well as sweeping up behind the defence well, United at the other end had a couple of shots go wide from Wheeldon and Callum Ward, Arguably the best move of the match saw United take the lead. United passed the ball out well to Tom Rowlands who found United man of the match Crutchley moving down the right, he skilfully beat the Colts full back before hitting the cross of the match to a on rushing Wheeldon to nicely steer his volley home. Beacon pushed players forward and the game became very open. United went further ahead a few minutes later when a United corner was well met by Joe Boyce, who headed the ball on towards Rowlands who finished well just inside the 6 yard box. United still needed to be on their toes and should be grateful to Mowe in the United goal for keeping Beacon out. United managed to see the game out to claim their first 3 points of the season.
