MATCH REPORT 11/11/2012

United were expecting a tough game against a high flying Football Futures team and that’s exactly what it proved to be. From the first whistle Futures put United under pressure and they retained much of the ball during the first ten minutes, their direct play and competitiveness very apparent, Futures opened the scoring first, a period of pressure was rewarded when their forward found the corner of the net from just inside the box. Step up Tom Wheeldon for perhaps his best performance of the season, with support from Louie Parish and the Wyrley midfield he began to terrorise the Futures defence, a Sam Foreman pass cleared the Futures defence, Wheeldon turned on the gas and United were level when he slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. Futures hit straight back and a long ball bisected the Wyrley defence, Jack Addison was swiftly off his line but the brave Futures attacker just got the last touch to put them back in front. A minute of so before half time and Wheeldon hit his second, he picked the ball up to the right of the Futures goal, again the keeper advance but Wheeldon’s shot went in off the far post. After Half time, Futures had the advantage of a slight slope but with Addison assured in goal and the back four playing as a tighter unit Futures couldn’t fashion a clear cut opportunity on goal although they had numerous half chances, United were still a threat on the break and man of the match Wheeldon broke clear again to put United in front, With a few minutes to go an excellent Liam Morley corner put the defender on the near post under pressure and he unfortunately headed the ball into his own net and United went home 4-2  winners.

Great result boys well done today!
