Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U13’s Season 2013-14
Lichfield League Division 1.
Pelsall Villa 1 v 2 Wyrley Juniors United.
United went into the game knowing a win could push them near the top of table after completing five games, However second place Villa themselves had the chance of sitting pretty at the top of the table, so this added an extra edge to this encounter and the game didn’t disappoint, the match proved to be a full on battle between two committed teams. Villa started brightly and their two quick forwards kept the Wyrley defence on their toes. The villa no9 broke free to open the scoring in this game his effort just beating Jack at his near post. United did respond well and went close through Sam Foreman on a couple of occasions, the Villa keeper doing well to keep his team in front, Tom Wheeldon tried in vain but just couldn’t breach a hard working Villa defence. Charlie Street had an opportunity at the near post just before half-time but his effort was just off target. United shuffled the pack a little in the second half and introduced Yassine Oakley in midfield, In a tightly fought contest it was important that United scored the next goal, as the ball broke from midfield Wheeldon raced clear to give the keeper no chance to his right and pull United level. The game was being played at a frantic pace and it could be said that the quality of football suffered a little because of it, United defended a couple of corners well, after clearing the ball well from one such corner, the ball was played to Yazz who found Wheeldon out wide, he cut in nicely from the left and with the keeper bearing down on him, he chipped the ball cleverly over him and into the empty net, Finally United got some breathing space but could not afford to take their foot of the gas, Villa try has they did just couldn’t muster a decent effort on goal before the final whistle, Tom Rowlands and Liam Morley both went close for United but couldn’t add to the one goal lead, so the game finished in United’s favour 2-1.
Well done lads top of the league and well deserved, you dug in deep today against a strong physical Villa team for a great result
