Wyrley Juniors United weekend match report 11-1-2015

Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U14’s Season 2014-15

Lichfield League Shield Division A.

Wyrley Juniors United  2 v Chasetown Scholars 1.

First game of the new year saw United up against  a much improved Chasetown Scholars. On a difficult surface and with a wind gusting from one end of the pitch to the other United knew that the conditions in general wouldn’t help the game flow easily. However United managed to have the majority of possession throughout the game. Their  passing game stretched their opponents, United got in some great positions in the first period but just lacked a cutting edge in front of goal. The chasetown  keeper proved to be thorn in the side from start to finish and his excellent performance kept his team in the game, United perhaps somewhat fortunately took the lead in this game when the excellent Tom Wheeldon  controlled the ball in the box, there may have been an arm involved but the ref had the best view, play continued and Wheeldon despatched his shot  accurately in the bottom corner, if Chasetown were a little aggrieved by the decision, then they got a huge slice of luck a few minutes later, a clearance from deep in their own half bounced awkwardly in front of Callum Mowe in the United goal, he’d got it covered but slipped just before the ball reached him, after going to ground the ball struck Callum and ran kindly to the Chasetown stiker who followed the ball well and rolled the ball into an empty net. United picked themselves up and were in charge through most of the second half, some great passing football was served up by United, with the wind at their backs. Chances galore went begging and this was down to an excellent performance by the Chasetown keeper , Shots by Wheeldon, Sam Foreman, Cory Crutchley just couldn’t  get passed him!  Callum  Ward had a great second half as well as man of the match Liam Morley, the latter’s ball across the box found Wheeldon whose touch was great then his shot flew wide of the Chasetown keeper whose finger tips on this occasion couldn’t prevent the ball hitting the net. United with their noses in front kept the lead to win this difficult encounter.
