Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U14’s Season 2014-15

Lichfield League Shield Division A.

Wyrley Juniors Jaguars  2 v Wyrley Juniors United 1.

United and Jags can be proud of the brand of football they produced today in this shield encounter, both teams played with a good spirit and a determined and competitive attitude. Jags played some neat football from their defence and asked questions of the United shape early on during this game. Jags took the lead when Jack in the United goal managed to block a shot from the edge of the box, however their striker followed up the rebound well to find the net. United hurried their opponents and were given one or two opportunities to feed the hard working Tom Wheeldon, but the quality of the final ball just didn’t materialise. Cory Crutchley worked hard down the United left and finally United looked to threaten their opponents, his fine run and cross ball found Wheeldon  whose righted footed effort found the corner of the net to level things. Wheeldon went close soon after, his effort was well covered by the Jags keeper, who tipped it around the post. The second half saw the Jags have the majority of possession and they missed a couple of half chances, United dug deep and worked hard to keep up with their opponents but there were one or two tired legs out there and United opportunities on goal were hard to come by, with the wind and snow hitting United hard in the face Jags took advantage, a misjudged cross was parried and the ball fell kindly to the Jags striker to head home from close range. The last ten minutes saw the Jags comfortably see out the game to take the points.
