WYRLEY JUNIORS UNITED – WEEKEND MATCH REPORT 23-03-2014.

LICHFIELD LEAGUE DIVISION 1.

WYRLEY JUNIORS UNITED 3 v 2 BEACON COLTS

This game was a repeat of last weeks fixture, on that occasion United ran out convincing winners, the colts to their credit came to their hosts intent to improve on that performance and this time around they gave United much to think about.  A strong cross wind made the conditions difficult for both teams, but United settled the quicker of the two teams and they had a spell of early pressure. Liam Morley added to last weeks effort with a well placed shot into the roof of the net to put United one up. Not long after a great break and cross by Tom Wheeldon was stroked home neatly by Elliot Crook to give United a 2 goal cushion, United were determined to maintain and improve on their advantage and were unlucky not to go further ahead when a Tom Rowlands header rattled the cross bar from a Morley corner. Beacon closed the gap though with a fine strike from the edge of the box, this seemed to spur United back into action, United Man of the match Charlie street lobbed the keeper to restore United’s 2 goal cushion and was unlucky not to hit his second when he also struck the woodwork. In  a scrappy but competitive second half, United went close with efforts from Lewis Hill, Tom Wheeldon and John McDermott, however a quick break by the Colts saw their striker coolly take his chance to reduce the deficit to one goal once more. Dan Hodson calming presence in the United goal helped United close out the game to claim all three points.

Great win boys and an excellent effort, lets take this current form into the last league game of the season this Sunday.

We are unbeaten in the league since the opening day of the season, 12 games in total and unbeaten at home in all comps. Scored our 50 league goal on Sunday in just our 13th game.
