Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U14’s Season 2014-15
Bilston Cup 2nd round.
Wyrley Juniors United 0 v Silverdale Spartans 2.
United played a huge part in this game despite losing by two goals, In a cagey, somewhat edgy first period, neither team took a stranglehold on the game and chances were almost none existent, this however shouldn’t take away the effort and hard work by the United players, who didn’t stop running throughout the half, not especially fair to single out any one individual but United man of the match Callum Ward arguably had his best half in a United shirt, showing composure on the ball and strength to win it when required. United though were not focused enough during the restart and were punished within a minute to go 1-0 down, credit to the Silverdale forward who had waited a long time for this opportunity. United didn’t let their heads drop but has they tried to get a foothold back in the game, the same striker hit his second and this put United under great pressure to turn the tide, but with twenty five minutes or so to go, this is exactly what they did, a few changes were made and the chances began to fall, Sam Foreman was unlucky on two occasions, coming in a free kick at the back post to see his shot well saved, then a long range effort which just curled over the angle of crossbar and post, but Tom Wheeldon was very unlucky after some great work by Cory Crutchley ended in a cross which fell into Wheeldon’s path, he absolutely smashed the ball goal bound but the keeper made the save of the game to keep his clean sheet intact. Crutchley was unlucky also during the last few minutes as he couldn’t quite find the right connection to open United’s account and make it a very interesting final few minutes.
Not our day today but pleasingly not for the want of trying, Kept our heads up and were a little unlucky not to score!
