Wyrley Juniors Dragons 7 v 0 Bentley Community

(Walsall Junior Youth League under 11’s – Diamond Trophy 21.03.10)

Wyrley hosted Division 2s Bentley Community in their second Group B match of the Diamond Trophy.

Dragons started well attacking Bentleys’ goal straight away making their keeper collect the ball under pressure. After a couple of minutes though Bentley found their feet and made a game of it with both teams giving it a go and the game being open as it was end to end stuff.

Dragons scored first with the ball being played wide to Tom H who, on the left, had bags of space to run at the keeper and his slot could only be diverted by the keeper into the path of Cieran W at the back post for an easy tap in. After that first goal you could sense that Dragons would remain in control of the game and even with Bentley working hard to try and get back in the game, Dragons defence stood strong and any balls played over the top were soon latched onto by Nathan denying Bentley of any real sniff at goal. Dragons went on to score a second goal just over halfway through the first half and it was Liam R who knocked the ball past Bentleys keeper to extend the Dragons lead. Bentley closed out the first half strong with Carl having to scramble the ball away off the goal line as Bentley tried to get a goal back before half time.

Half Time 2 – 0.

Dragons took complete control of the second half and it wasn’t long before Liam R was on the score sheet again. Dragons pushed harder and harder, taking control more of the midfield and not allowing Bentley to play. Tom H was next on the score sheet with a well deserved goal after going close on a number of occasions in the first half.

It was a Bentley home goal that put five up for Dragons as Liam R, Kieran S and Ewan pushed forward the cross came in towards Tom H and all the Bentley defender could do was stretch and in intercepting the ball knock it into his own net. The game was all Dragons from that point on as Bentley let their head drop. Kieran S scored Dragons sixth goal after being played through on the right controlled the ball brilliantly whilst holding off a Bentley defender taking only one touch before striking the ball across the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Dragons just kept pushing forward now and it was down to Kieran S for making the seventh and final goal happen, Tom H played Kieran into the box and upon controlling the ball jinked past on defender before the next player ended up taking Kieran instead of the ball for a penalty. Up stepped Ewan who calmly fired the ball past the keeper.

Well done Dragons on the first clean sheet of the season. Let’s have the same again next week.

Full Time 7 – 0.
