ello, ello, ello what do we have here then! I tell you what – a cracking set of guys and gals that have connected and created a bostin little team! Lead by their mad Yam Yam manager Chris Nicholls, who’s managed to create a crackling little team. Fair enough we have to translate everything he says due to being a broad Black Country Lad who calls a horse an oss , an apple an opple and a baby – a babby! Confused you will be!
We all met up at Leamore park at the ghastly hour of 9:00am for our scheduled games against Silverdale followed by FC Premier. Chris was spoilt for choice with a full squad at his disposal, all displaying their posh new kits! However, Chris had ordered the kit based on the sizes of the under 16’s Dragons it seemed!!! The pictures don’t lie, Reilly’s goalie top would have fitted Jeff Sutton!! On a serious note, many thanks to Tile Choice for their kind support in sponsoring the kits for the Dragons. I always go to Tile Choice for my tiles, grout and stuff and now they are supporting a Wyrley side – we should all make a trip their too. The kids all gathered for a team photo – some with bulldog clips fitted to their backs and shorts rolled over several times hahahaha – only joking, it wah that bad our kid!
Chris gathered the rabble for a team talk and a tactics class. The team took to the field with the 4 subs following the gaffer round like his shadow. The game kicked off with a bitterly cold wind blowing from left to right or right to left, dependant on where you were standing. Silverdale were a strong side with a couple of heavies residing at the back that quashed / thwarted the Dragons endeavours. One of which was a girl (Sir Keith, Chris had a word with their gaffer after the game regarding potentially training with a Wyrley Girls Team) she was a solid little player. The game ebbed and flowed and both sets of players were putting a shift in. Niall ‘Aniallator’ was hurt in a challenge which resulted in him leaving the pitch temporarily. This meaning Captain Marvel Phoebe Nicholls entered the fray. She settled in immediately and her no nonsense approach closed the door every time. Ben ‘The Beast’ one of our recent acquisitions rifled a rasper of a shot just wide of the mark. The other acquisition Ash ‘The Flash’ was also making his mark in the game and scored via a through ball . The Dragons fans erupted and a wall of noise filled the Bloxwich air, they managed to contain themselves in time for the restart. . Meanwhile Matthew aka ‘wireless’ was working the wing well battling to gain possession and provide the through balls to Flash . Reilly ‘The Rock’ was playing like a young Gordan Banks, diving bravely at the feet of the on rushing attackers and producing an absolute worldy of a save by leaping like a salmon to finger tip the ball onto the upright / crossbar. This kid has been born with the attributes and mind set of a quality keeper! Freya ‘The Slayer’ was putting in a hard performance and working the wing well. Jim’ Dynamo’ was providing a master class of close control Ronaldo esque footwork that was greeted with raptures of applause from the crowd. Silverdale kept the pressure on and on running the ball out of the area, what appeared to be a clear foul on Freya resulted in the ball being deposited in the back of the net. There was no time left to try and obtain a winner and the Dragons had to settle for a draw.
The kids literally had to vacate this pitch to immediately start the game against FC Premier, no rest for the wicked! From the off Reubs ‘The Rocket’ took off down the wing like an Exocet and produced a wicked cross whilst in full flow that unfortunately wasn’t met with a Dragon foot, head, knee or hand. A further sortie led by attackers Dynamo and Flash led to Flash bagging his first goal. this was closely followed with Phoebe narrowly missing the target with an absolute bomb of a shot from distance, that narrowly missed the target. ‘Dynamo was casting his magic and conjured up an opportunity where his shot stung the fingers of the keeper, who pushed it around the upright. Bill ‘The artful Dodger combined well with Flash to thread the ball through to Flash who finished like a honed professional. Straight from the restart Flash picked up the ball from within the Wyrley area and proceeded to bob and weave his way through copious amounts of defenders to neatly tuck the ball away. Kenzie ‘007’ was working the wing well and produced a quality cross from the left flank that was put wide of the mark from Ben ‘The Beast’. The Flash scored another 2 goals in quick succession signing off on a great debut. ‘Wireless’ another quality keeper was also showing his repertoire of fine saves to ensure the Wyrley sheet stayed clean. Dodger was being his usual self by pinching the ball from his opposition and terrifying them with his direct attacks. It was one of his attacks that led to him laying the ball of for ‘The Beast’ to smash home – great finish. Whilst at the back the ‘Aniallator’ was producing slide tackles that were perfectly timed to quell the FC Premier attacks. The final whistle sounded and the team celebrated with gusto
Man of the Match was awarded to Ash ‘The Flash’ for an outstanding performance culminating in 6 goals on his debut. All the kids contributed to this weekends performance and with the guidance of Chris, they can go along way!
Thanks to the parents for their support – much appreciated
Before I left I asked Chris if there was a B&Q in Bloxwich to which he answered, ar doh know but there’s 2 D’s in Dudley!!
