Bentley 2 Wyrley Juniors 3

A hard fought game saw Wyrlwy eventually gain 3 vital points.  The game saw each side carefully sussing each other out but eventually Wyrley began to gain the upper hand and force more pressure. The lead should have come when Geldart was put clean through but his shot was well saved by the home keeper.  Wyrley did take the lead though when following some fine build up play a series of short passes around the edge of the box saw Lowe play a delightful little pass into Dolman who steered home.  Shortly after the lead was increased, this time when Geldart was put through he dummied the keeper and then went to his right and chipped in a wonderful goal. At half time with a 2-0 lead it should have been all over, but this is football and things rarely go to plan.

Bentley came out and switched to 3-5-2 to obviously get at us more, the plan seemed to work as they got more and more possesion in midfield and it was obvious a change was needed. But then the game changed in an unexpected way firs of all Paul Yeomans was booked for stupidly kicking the ball away when it had gone for a throw in. With Wyrley about to make a change this just put a bit of doubt whether to  go ahead with the planned substitution in case Yeomans got into further trouble, however the change was decide on. As the sub was getting changed Bentley were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and promptly took the chance to pull one back. Now bentley really put the pressure on and when Yeomans made his first late tackle of the game the ref gave his second yellow and he was on his way. Down to 10 men Bentley took the reins and forced an equaliser. Wyrley had to do something and so made another change and went 3-5-1, this worked to a point but still Bentley were putting pressure on, but then when things were looking grim the referee sent oof Bentley’s left back for persistent verbals. Now wyrley changed to 3-4-2 and things started to look up and following a free kick Foster ghosted in at the back post to put us back in front. Fowler was stupidly booked for deliberate handball but Wyrley had done the job and claimed all 3 points.
