Chasetown Ladies 1-2 Wyrley Ladies

Wyrley made the short trip to Chasetown, looking to build on last week’s emphatic 9-1 win at Bridgenorth.
Wyrley started brightly enough and tried several long range shots all of which were off target, possibly due to kicking downhill.  The game flowed from one goal mouth to another with Chasetown’s keeper making several point blank saves to deny Sophie Shorrock and Leanne Mitchell a goal.
Leah Fanning cleared off the Wyrley line to deny Chasetown a goal from a great corner.  Kelly Worrel played the sweeper position well and Chasetown found it hard to get past Wyrley’s defence of Jody Richards, Leah Fanning, Kelly Worrel and Ashleigh Wilcox.  Natasha Lilly, Emily Quimby mastered the midfield cutting out Chasetown’s attacks.
Wingers Hayley Turner and Leanne Mitchell made several burst up the wings and sending over superb crosses for Sophie Shorrock and Jemma Clews to attack.  The whole of the first half was end to end stuff.

Jemma Clews was replaced by Cath Davis at the start of the break, and a slight reshuffle was required, with Cath coming in defence, Ash moving to midfield and Leanne pushing up front.  The 2nd half saw Wyrley attack from the kick off and Leanne Mitchell sent over a sublime ball for Sophie Shorrock to place past the keeper 0-1.  Chasetown were once more on the attack looking for the equaliser, a tense time for all.  Attack and counter attack was definitely the order of the day and try as both did to get the upper hand it was proving to be a very close game and a goal for either side was looking elusive.  Chasetowns keeper was having a tremendous game, and Wyrleys defence smothering most things before they even troubled
Lauren Cresswell in goal.  When Lauren was called into action she was decisive and marshalled her box well, smothering several balls at the feet of the onrushing forwards.  It was in the 85
th minute that Wyrley secured their 2nd when Leanne Mitchell rounded the defender and chipped the outrushing keeper to make the points seem secure 0-2.   Chasetown were not to be outdone though and on the 89th minute Chasetown had a corner which went over Lauren and was headed home for a consolation to Chasetown 1-2.
