WYRLEY JUNIORS 1 v 2 SUTTON STRIKES

Wyrley were hosts in the first round of the open cup to a high flying Sutton Strikes team from a division above, Sutton provided quality opposition but Wyrley responded well to the challenge, In a relative even first half Sutton were first to score, after some good approach play their striker coolly took her chance to break the deadlock, Wyrley worked hard to get a foothold in this game ,  Wyrley man of the match Abi Hall never giving up against a formidable opponent in the Sutton defence and Liz Scoines once again playing well in goal deputising again for the injured Lauren Manton. After a spell of Wyrley pressure and some good work  by Danni Biggs and Ilora Anderson, Meg Titley was on hand to equalise a few minutes before half time. Sutton stepped up their game in the second half and put Wyrley under pressure early on in this half, Wyrley seemed to have weathered the storm but a fine run down the left followed by a stunning finish gave Sutton the lead again, Wyrley though put Sutton under great pressure in the last 10 minutes, which is credit to their resolve to try to get back into this game, several corners and a potential penalty appeal for hand ball came to nothing and Sutton held on to venture further in this competition.
