Dragons breathe fire into bitterly cold morning

It was that cold in Bloxwich today I went back to my car and it was minus 4! Minus 4 wheels, the scamps had stolen em! Seriously it must have been cold as Chris Nicholls had his hands in his own pockets!!

A full accompliment of Dragons turned up at Leamore Park for our scheduled fixtures against Sporting Khalsa and FC Premier. The ground was crunchy and the air was crisp, everybody was blinking excessively to ensure their eye balls didn’t freeze! Chris and Dan began to warm the kids up whilst I assisted in tying shoelaces and ensuring they looked good! A few parents braved the cold but a few notable absences obviously opted for a duvet day instead – I won’t name names but Michelle you missed out on Matthews cracking goal.

The gaffer gave his starting line up and organised his troops strategically on his clipboard! The kids listened with intent and they were ready for war! Captain Marvel – Phoebe Nicholls lead them into battle. The kids doomed their tin hats Wyrley beanie hats) and applied their war paint (mud) and waited for the whistle to charge at the enemy. Jim aka ‘Dynamo’ immediately gave a display of Messi esque skills to evade the Khalsa defence and pull his shot just wide – lively start. Ben ‘The Beast’ playing in a deeper position was bossing the game! Strong in the tackle and showing great composure to rifle the ball past the Khalsa keeper! Great finish – Wyrley were showing great industry and desire to compete for ever ball and to create opportunities. Freya ‘The Slayer’ was causing mayhem by absolutely owning the wing  and rubbing the oppositions noses in it too. Ash ‘The Flash’ was putting a solid shift in and a quality cross from the wing was diverted goal wards by the Beasts belly bagging him a brace! Just remember kids to ask your parents for a performance bonus – normally £5, but if my kids are reading this its £1:50.  Matthew aka ‘Wireless’ hadn’t touched the ball as the first half came to a halt, a testament to his teammates who thwarted every potential attack.

The gaffer rang the changes bringing 007, the rocket, Artful dodger and the rock into the fray. Immediately Kenzie 007 played a great 1-2 with Dodger which lead to Reubs ‘the Rocket’ shooting and Ash diverting it into the net. The kids celebrated with great energy as they recognised a well worked goal.

007 was battling hard both offensively and support the defensive stalwarts Reilly ‘The Rock’ and Niall ‘Aniallator’. A late attack by Dodger led him to thunder a strike goal wards to which was spilt, only for Dodger to follow it up and tuck it away. Game won and a solid performance from front to back.

Next up was FC Premier who physically looked bigger than the Dragons. Wouldn’t be hard though as we do have some tots in the side, they maybe small but their hard as nails!! Reilly ‘The Rock’ was back in goal meaning ‘Wireless’ was allowed to venture out. From the whistle FC Premier pressed and fired a rasper of a shot that was neatly dealt with by the Rock and Captain Marvel. Another sortie by Premier led to a strike whistling passed the hands of the Rock. The Dragons heads didn’t drop and immediately struck an equaliser via great industry by Freya ‘the Slayer’ whose beautiful through ball was tucked away by Wireless. The crowd erupted with vigorous energy, probably due to trying to warming themselves!

The gaffer was having a shocker! Absolutely rubbish with names, calling Jim Bill, Bill, Ben and Rita, Sue and Bob too. I’ve tried to help educate him by giving them nicknames, but it must be his black country roots that cause the malfunction. Captain Marvel and Aniallator were having a stormer at the back , just like Bruce and Pallister of old! A great through ball from the rocket allowed Dynamo Jim in on goal but the effort squirted just wide of the upright. The game was end to end and The Rock was again performing heroics between the sticks. Premier made a sortie into the dragons area and a shot  cannoned past the Rock via a deflection from a Dragons boot. Time was running out and Ash ‘The Flash’ left the best goal to last as he lobbed the keeper from 20 yards! Sensational vision and execution.

The whistle blew and the Dragons congratulated FC Premier and thanked the ref. great to see the kids come off the pitch still smiling and not one of them concerned about the result.

The gaffer gathered all the kids and soccer moms / dads to announce the man / woman of the matches!

Ben the Beast was awarded the trophy for the first game as he showed great endeavour and tenacity.

Phoebe Captain Marvel was awarded the trophy for her super human efforts in game 2.

Thanks to all soccer moms and dads for your continued support! Your efforts are appreciated by all, just look at the kids faces after the games!!

I still didn’t find out if there’s a B&Q in Bloxwich!! Nicholls went home and celebrated with Faggots, grey peas and gravy and Slade on his record player.

Come on you Dragonssssssssssssss
