Wyrley continued their excellent start to the season with a 4-1 away victory against Ettingshall Park Farm on Saturday.

Wyrley started the game brightly and had a number of early chances before Chris Geldart netted his first goal of the season after 15 minutes. Geldart collected the ball just inside the area turned the Ettingshall defenders inside out before smashing home from 10 yards. Wyrley continued to push and created chance after chance but a combination of bad finishing and good goalkeeping prevented them from adding to the lead in the early exchanges.

Ettingshall were handed a path back into the match after 40 minutes when Lee Holliday came through a crowded area to catch a cross and unfortunately spilt the ball to the waiting striker who tapped home from close range. The first half finished 1-1 with Wyrley rueing the missed chances.

On their return from the interval Wyrley carried on creating good chances before Tom Lowe restored the lead on 55 minutes. Lowe chased down a long ball and knocked it past the advancing Ettingshall keeper before walking the ball into an empty net. Another good finish from Lowe who now has 7 goals in 7 games.

Chris Asbury was next on the score sheet after 65 minutes when he burst through the Ettingshall defence before seeing his initial effort saved by the keeper and following in the rebound to extend the lead. The game was then wrapped up ten minutes later when Geldart added his second of the game. Chris Fowler picked him out with a nice through ball and Geldart rounded the keeper before slotting into an empty net. After a couple of average performances it was good to see Wyrley back at their best, especially in the second half and hopefully we can repeat that performance at the Red Lion Ground next week when we entertain Penkridge Town FC.
