Ladies Challenge Cup. Wyrley Ladies 5-1 Silverdale Ladies

This 2nd round match promised to be an even game, of youth and experience, as both teams have played for a few seasons.

Both teams started well and probed each other’s defence on several occasions, so it took 18 mins for the deadlock to be broken with Sophie deciding which foot to use to shoot with, not good for the supporters shouting shoot 1-0.  20 mins saw Sam battling for the ball and cuts a sweet cross in for Soph to tap in her 2nd 2-0.  27 mins Tash was bought down outside the penalty box and struck a blinding free kick that left the keeper no chance when it dipped under the bar top right 3-0.  33 mins saw Lauren make her 1st mistake of the game coming out to collect the ball, but the Silverdale forward was too quick and she took it round Lauren and slid it across the box for their other forward to slot home 3-1.  34 mins Leanne raced down the wing makes a lovely pass to Soph to tap in for her hat trick 4-1.

2nd half saw Silverdale start brighter and were pressing for a goal, keeping Wyrley on the back foot, but the defence of Ash, Saffron, Kelly and Cathy dealt with the pressure well.  56 mins Vikki replaced Kelly and the team shuffled round to suit.  Tash, Leanne, Emily and Sam battled well in midfield, feeding balls through to Sophie and Rachel.  68 mins Sophie made way for Jemma to join the game.  74 mins Rachel was 1 on 1 with the keeper but she was brave and both ended up requiring treatment, Rachel made way for Charlie.  75 mins Emily found herself 40yds out and sent a cracker of a shot which the keeper got fingertips to but couldn’t keep it out 5-1.  The rest of the game saw both spectacular and speculative shots from both sides.

Ash was outstanding in defence today covering for the usual defence of Jody and Kirsty both out injured.  Emily stood in well for Chelsea who was also out injured, which shows what a solid all round team the ladies have this year.
