Match Report – 13/9/15 – Tipton Youth Lions v’s Wyrley Wanderers

Result – Tipton 1 – Wyrley Wanderers 4

So welcome to the first official match report of the season, after a great 9-0 win last week in the league cup the Wanderers opened the league season with a fantastic 4-1 away win over Tipton.

Match Report –
The Lions started brightly taking control of the game in the early exchanges and put us under some pressure for the first 10mins or so. After this initial period we settled down and started to play our football creating several chances following some great work by Alfie Morgan down our right. We were now in control and the break through finally came half way through the first half, following some good work down our left the ball was played back to Callum Crawford who turned inside and whipped a fantastic ball across the box which managed to elude everybody, but found the bottom corner of the net! 1-0 Wanderers! The first half ended with a chance for the home team, after a long ball found its way through our defence the Lions striker hit the post before some excellent covering from Ade Carter ensured the follow up was cleared.
A couple of changes were made at half time and the second half saw us continue to dominate possession. It was only a matter of time before we extended our lead and it finally came when following some good football in midfield the ball was put through to Josh Lees to calmly finish into the bottom left corner! We were now full of confidence and in full control and half way through the second half we stepped up another level and managed to double our lead with 2 quick goals. The first was made by Josh and tapped in by Lewis May to make it 3-0, the next followed quickly with Liam Parkin finishing off a great move with a neat finish into the bottom corner to make it 4! Even though we had a commanding lead, Tipton wouldn’t give up. They continued to push forward searching for a goal and forced Thomas Long into a double point blank save from a swinging free kick. They finally got their consolation goal shortly after when a scramble in our box was finished from close range. The final few minutes saw us keep the ball really well and end the game with a comfortable 3 goal cushion.

Some great individual performances today, but in particular Alfie for his first half performance, Ade for his continuous running and to “Man of the Match” Phoenix for his control of the back four.

Well done to all the team, great all round performance and great start to our season! Bring on Wryley Rhinos next week.

Joe, Jason and Ronan.
