Sutton Coldfield Town Juniors FC 4 v 1 Wyrley Juniors Dragons

4th October 2009 – South Staffs Junior Charity Competition Round 1

The Dragons lost their first round cup game against Sutton today.

From the kick off Dragons looked to carry on from where they finished last week, passing through Sutton’s players with ease at times and it wasn’t long before Ryan, Cieran W, Ewan and Kieran S linked up to send Liam R through on goal only to slam the ball past the Keeper and into the post allowing Sutton to clear. Dragons squandered chance after chance and you could sense that if they didn’t get a goal soon then Sutton would come back into the game and that’s exactly what happened.

Sutton scored the first goal of the game and it signalled a complete turnaround, it was now Sutton who where now controlling the game and seemed to be latching onto every loose ball going and although Moggy, Tom F, Liam H and Dom were working hard in defence but the pressure Sutton applied finally told as they scored a second before the break.

Half Time 2 – 0.

Dragons went out in the second half to get back in the game and started to apply pressure and play how they can with some brilliant passing putting Sutton on the back foot. Dragons didn’t give up and forced a corner five minutes in. Kieran S whipped the ball in which Tom F hit on the half volley sending the ball goal ward only to get a deflection, Tom H was switched onto what happened and was quickest to the loose ball smashing it into the back of the net for Dragons only goal of the game. Tom F went into a 50 – 50 challenge just beating a Sutton player to the ball to clear away 20 yards out. Sutton were awarded a free kick which was well taken resulting in a goal. Nathan had to make some good saves as Dragons seemed to let the pressure of the situation get to them and Sutton scored their fourth goal through a defensive mistake when Dragons where not switched on enough. Dragons struggled on with Tom H, Kieran S and Liam R unable to convert the few chances they got as Sutton seemed to want the ball more throughout the second half.

Full Time 4 – 1.
