U12 Jaguars 2 v FC Premier 0
by Coops Snr on Nov.25, 2012, under Match Reports, Under 17s Jaguars 17/18
The Jaguars were back in League action on a heavy pitch against F.C. Premier and as a result moved another place up the table with a convincing victory. Wyrley are finally losing the ‘slow starters’ tag and were out the blocks like a greyhound leaving Premier in a spin and would have been ahead in the first 60 seconds but for the impressive Premier keeper who made the first in a series of top saves from Coops. Another couple of half chances came and went before Premier found their feet in the game and the two sides started to cancel each other out. The regular back four of Ollie, Tom, Josh and Milky have become the cornerstone of the Jags recent success and again today gave Pricey very little to do, all five have made us very hard to beat in recent weeks. It has given Wyrley a huge amount of confidence, the midfield never gives up, skipper Euan was again solid in the ‘holding role’, winning tackles, distributing and in turn taking out Premier’s playmaker with a man to man job in the second 30 minutes. Billy’s performances in the last two weeks especially have been a revelation, strong, physical and looking for the killer pass, Coops again covered every blade and is fast becoming the teams Jack Russell snapping at the oppositions heals. Brean’s pace and quality on the ball giving a good outlet down the left and all four stood up to a tough Premier side. For the second week running Wyrley took the lead just before halftime, some good possession and build up play saw Man of the Match Louie drop a shoulder, buy himself a small amount of space to precisely place a shot into the roof of the net giving the Premier keeper no chance.
Premier started the second half very brightly but the organised Jags soaked up the pressure and again begin to dominate possession. As in the first half both sides cancelled each other out in the midfield battle, the Jags needed fresh legs and Tom ‘Bruce’ Lee came on to torture F.C.’s right back with some impressive runs and quality balls into dangerous areas and Sam came on to do the same down the right. With only one goal in it Premier always posed a threat especially from corners, they wasted none giving the Wyrley defence a few scary moments with a notable clearance off the line. The Jags looked dangerous on the break and 3/4 the way through the second half Premier conceded a free kick midway in their own half. Bruce used his sweet left foot to swing a ball with pace in behind Premier defensive line for workhorse centre forward Luke to pop up with a beautifully timed run to head home the second a decisive goal. Nothing more than Luke deserved, twice denied by the quality Premier keeper he never gives up terrorising opposing defenders into submission. Up to 5th in a very tough division with a break now until the new year as the cup and shield competitions take priority. Keep up the good work boys!
