A Wyrley derby saw the Jags come out on top against a much improved Utd side to complete 5 wins from 5 games in the league shield. 3 points sees the Jags through to the semi final against the winners of group three late in April.

A call from the management team to start games stronger and quicker could not have been answered any better as from the kick off Luke nipped in to pinch the ball and power his way through and finish with ease on exactly 16 seconds, a stat kindly provided by Mr. Ingry!

It shook Utd into life and to their credit pushed immediately for an equaliser, getting the ball forward to their two lively attackers was causing defensive problems and a fine save with his feet from Pricey and a shot off target kept the score at 1-0.

Once the defense settled the Jags started to pass the ball, getting it into wide areas where Billy, James together with Euan and Coops started to create nice combinations with Luke and Louie to create several excellent chances but it wasn’t until late in the half when top scorer Louie finished well to double the Jags lead.

The second half was started brightly by both sides, Utd were committed to every challenge making it difficult for the Jags to play their football and for a period the tie turned scrappy with two full on midfield’s exchanging blows. With both keepers having very little to do in the first quarter the next goal would be crucial and from a well taken free kick Pricey made another excellent overhead save which would be crucial to the outcome of the game. Moments later from a throw in Taylor burst through catching Utd’s defense napping to finish well putting the tie to bed with 10 minutes to play.

Credit to both sides for a physical game played in a good spirit with Utd giving the Jags their toughest Shield tie of the group!

Plenty of good performances notably from Tom Leak solid at centre half but for a no holds barred tough tackling display a right back, Man of the Match – Oli Ingry

Well done Jags and good luck in the semi final, looking at Div 3 teams you are in with a great chance of reaching the final so all the best from Utd.
