Last night ( Friday ) Wyrley Veterans kicked off the summer league with a hard fought goal less draw with Shenstone Pathfinder, at Cheslyn Hay High School. The new format means we play 30 minutes each way instead of 20 minutes each way. This was not a problem for Wyrley whose fitness levels remained high through out the game. Due to holidays and other committments, Wyrley drafted in 4 players for last nights game, and each one played a significant part. I would like to say it was end to end but it wasn’t, Wyrley keeper was a virtual spectator due to a solid defence, well marshalled by Ian and Neil. The Shenstone keeper was kept on his toes and had to make one or two interceptions / saves. Wyrley dominated the final 15 minutes due to our superior fitness levels .The one incident of note came near the end, Wyrley had the ball in the net only for it to be disallowed for obstruction ( a Wyrley player shouted mine ) before putting it in the net. Maybe next time Kev. Many thanks to everyone who came and took part it was a very enjoyable night.
