Our first game since 13th December saw Wyrley ease to victory against lowly Cannock & Rugeley. It could have been more but for a host of chances being missed.

Playing down the slope, Wyrley took advantage and went ahead after 5 minutes as Matt Moseley picked up the ball on the left edge of the penalty area and curled a super shot over the helpless keeper.

Wyrley increased their lead from a Mike Clayton corner with the ball being played back to Tom Garbett, whose shot was turned into the net by Lee Garrington, making it 2 goals in 2 games for him.

To their credit C&R kept attacking and did create a few half chances and so a third goal just before half time was welcome. It came from another  Mike Clayton corner that Mark Whitehouse met to head home expertly with the ball slightly behind him, 2 in 2 for Mark too ! Half-time 3-0.

Playing uphill on a heavy pitch was always going to be a different story. However, Adam Green, Matt Moseley & Lee Garrington continued to torment the C&R defence. Graham Pollard made one outstanding save low down to his left and had safe hands all game to earn a welcome clean sheet; supported ably by the solid defence in front of him with Jeff Wright having a super game at left back.

Wyrley eventually increased their lead as Green was released down the left and his strong run ended with him crossing low for Garrington to have the simple task of tapping in from 6 yards.

We look forward to entertaining our club colleagues Inex Wyrley Juniors next week in the Cup.
