The first game of the new year proved to be quite a spectacle, both United and Rangers can be proud of the spirit and the way that they conducted themselves during the game, Rangers struck early, a good cross from the left found their striker who calmly took his chance. Wyrley responded positively and with the team performing well in all areas of the pitch began to get more possession, Tom Wheeldon not quite connecting when put clear in front of goal, Wheeldon soon made amends when he raced clear to coolly slot the ball into the corner of the net to bring United level, not long after a strong run from Louie Parish, saw him bundled over in the box to give United a penalty and an opportunity to take the lead, however the unfortunate Elliot Crook pushed the ball just wide of the post on this occasion. The second half and United continued to work hard and forced a few corners without any return, Rangers probably then had their best spell of the game for the next ten minutes or so, a fine run, saw the ball finally squeezed home from an acute angle to put the visitors 2-1 up, then another cross was coolly despatched in front of goal to see the gap widen to 3-1. With ten minutes left United didn’t sit back and because of their never say die spirit began to get further opportunities to stretch the Rangers defence, Wheeldon was put through again and neatly rounded the keeper to claw a goal back, and soon after had another chance to bring United level, on this occasion he hit his shot wide of the mark. A excellent Liam Morley corner found its way onto Wheeldon’s forehead and the ball hit the back of the net to bring United level and end the game with a deserved share of the spoils. Tom Peacock getting back to his best was United man of the match.

Well done boys great performance by all today!
