Lichfield Shield Division B,
Shelfield 2 v 3 Wyrley Juniors United
This was the last game for United in this years shield and it proved to be yet another game containing fantastic commitment from the Wyrley lads, Shelfield were a commited side too and started well forcing United on the back foot in the opening few minutes, they got their reward shortly after with an excellent strike from the edge of the box giving them a 1-0 lead. United reacted well and worked hard to get a foothold in the game, however a long ball from the back bounced kindly for the Shelfield attacker who calmly finished the move to put Shelfield 2-0. U11’s can be a difficult age group to motivate after conceeding 2 goals but it must be said with excellent travelling support and United’s self belief the boys were determined to turn it around, Tom Wheeldon epitomised this team spirit when he latched onto a through ball, his first shot half stopped by the Shelfield keeper but Tom reacted well to calmly slide the rebound home. Half time 2-1 to Shelfield, After a few tactical changes at half time and with a renewed confidence a goal can give any team, United took to the field wanting more goals, Callum Holiday, Sam Foreman, Kieron Hall and Alex Price started the second half well in the United midfield, But it was Chase Allens ability to pick the ball up in front of the back four and deliver a fine through ball to Wheeldon to hit his second which ignited Uniteds chance of a comeback. The hard working Foreman then became provider slidng the ball inside from the right wing for Wheeldon to latched onto to hit Wyrleys third. Shelfield looked a little unsteady at the back and the introduction of Louie Parish and Tom Peacock in the centre for United added that little bit of steel that was necessary to see the game out, Parish unlucky not score himself. Well played boys great way to finish the shield games, great team effort well done Jack Addison, Tom Rowlands, Jake Higgins, Damo, Josh Simpson, Kieron Haworth Thomas, Elliot Crook and Lewis Hill who very much deserve a mention too!
