Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U14’s Season 2014-15

Lichfield League Shield Division A.

Mere Green 1 v Wyrley Juniors United 3.

United put in a solid team performance today against their opponents. Mere Green moved the ball well early on in this game using the large playing area well, United taking the first few minutes to settle has their opponents had the greater possession, eventually Mere Green’s possession broke through the United defence they took the lead with a well taken goal from just inside the box. United raised their game from this moment onwards and began to get a foothold in the game, Elliot Crook held the ball up well to link with other team members, but as the half came to a close, the final ball for United didn’t materialise and Mere Green went in at half time one goal to the good. United went out with a determined attitude in the second half and were asked to improve on their distribution, the hard working Sam New and man of the match Cory Crutchley began to see more of the ball, Crutchley passed the ball well and held his position on the pitch cleverly to both offer something going forward as well as supporting the full back, so fully deserving his recognition, however there were many others who stepped up during this half and it was this collective team performance which began to impact the game, Crook’s through ball found Tom Wheeldon’s run, as the defence split Wheeldon got between keeper and defender to clip the ball home. Mere Green tried hard to get back into the game but couldn’t take their chances on this occasion, perhaps United’s endeavour deserved this little bit of luck, a fine pass from Crutchley found the ever willing Wheeldon, whose first touch the ball bounced nicely to his left side, then just before the next bounce Wheeldon hit an unstoppable volley from the edge of the box which hit the net via the far post, a goal worthy of winning any game. United still had a job to do, Liam Morley and Sam Foreman kept it tight in midfield, the latter intercepted the ball and found Crutchley whose pass set Wheeldon free, he knocked the ball unselfishly into the path of Crook whose finished neatly to earn United all three points.

Great result today boys, great team effort!
