Wyrley Juniors Warriors U-8 match report 30/10/16

Our first visit this season to Shelfield saw on form Warriors play two games.

In the first half of a very exciting game against Sutton United Pumas , the opposition immediately put Wyrley under pressure. However, Jack saved their first attempt on goal. Despite it looking as if Sutton might have things all their own way, a great pass from Hayden to Isaac from which he scored put Warriors in the lead.

Sutton obviously wanted to equalise and there was some hard tackling and scrambling for the ball. Carter cleared the ball once but Sutton found the net eventually.Harry almost regained Wyrley the lead but fast work by Sutton gave them a second goal. Quick on their feet Sutton came close to a third but this time the ball was saved.

However, after a lot of evading the opposition’s defenders Hayden levelled the score again. Unfortunately, Sutton powered the ball into the Warrior’s net giving them the half time lead.

Right from the kick off in the second half Warriors showed their determination to succeed with Jack levelling the score and Harry making  some great saves at the other end. However, there was little he could do to stop the ball when it was thundered from half way line from a free kick.

Warriors had their revenge though when a free kick awarded to them led to Cole gaining a late equaliser. A fair result for both teams.

Our second game against Tipton Youth put Wyrley under pressure again but they defended well. Carter, especially, is becoming more effective in defence. Fortune meanwhile favoured Wyrley when Tipton shot wide of the target. Not only had Isaac helped in this defence but seconds later he was flying down the pitch to score the only goal of the match. This might not have been the result but for Cole’s quick reaction in goal. Wyrley too came close to scoring when Tipton’s goal keeper was completely beaten.

In the second half Warriors had to do much to hold onto their lead. Defenders had to work hard and Alfie in particular had to take on a number of attacks. Luck was on the Wyrley’s side today, Lewis came close to scoring a second and soon after prevented Tipton from putting  the ball in the net.

Lee described today’s effort as ‘fantastic’ and that everyone deserved a man of the match award.
