Wyrley Ladies 2-1 Coseley Town Ladies

On a cold afternoon, on a boggy pitch, the performance of Wyrley can only be classed as lucky.  The game was not a great spectacle with the hit n hoof method being played due to the poor pitch condition.  The first half didnt produce many talking points apart from a couple of marvellous saves from Lauren, and the amount of ankle kicking from Coseley.   The defence of Jody, Ash, Cath and Hayley B were run ragged by the Coseley forwards who split the defence with pace and power.  Leanne, Tash, Hayley T and Emily found it difficult to hold on to the ball as Coseley chased and constantly harried them off the ball.  Sophie and Shelly made several bursts forward but were left unrewarded on the goal front. Cath was one of the first to feel the force of a tackle and limped off, to be replaced by Vikki, with Leanne dropping into defence to cover.

Second half Coseley upped their game and Wyrley soaked up more pressure and started to look nervous.  Emily made way for Kelly, more reshuffling on the pitch.  55 mins Vikki burst up the wing and sent it a superb cross with Kelly I managed to get her foot on and both her and the ball ended up in the back of the net 1-0.  A bit of nervous pressure was relieved and Wyrley started to produce a few descent passes together.  Lauren was called into action and didnt disappoint with some outstanding saves.  76 mins Sophie scooped the ball into the top right hand corner from a sitting possition in the box, unorthodox maybe but a goals a goal 2-0.  The rest of the half saw Coseley apply more pressure and gained a corned in the 80th minute. the corner was converted into a goal via a wicked deflection off Hayley 2-1 game on.  Coseley continued to press looking for the elusive equaliser, Wyrley soaked up the pressure and attempted to catch them on the break.  With the light fading,  and Wyrley spectators nervously begging for full time the ref duly obliged on 94 mins, to seal the double over last years league cup winners.
