Wyrley Ladies 3-0 Reedswood Ladies

League Cup 2nd Round.

Wyrley started well enough and considering they had a makeshift defence containing only 1 real defender, a midfield which had 2 players carrying injuries, held out well all game.

It only took 4 mins for Leanne to forget she was playing full back today, when she made 1 of her famous runs up the wing cut across and slide it past the keeper 1-0.  Kelly, Jody, Cath and Leanne cut out most balls fed through to Reedwoods forwards.  Anything that made it though was easily handled by Lauren in goal.  Sam, Chelsea, Tash and Emily battled hard in midfield and had several shot on goal.  Reedwood were not afraid of throwing themselves in the way of players or the ball and tackled hard, this was ok for Wyrley who also were not afraid of a battle for the ball.  43 mins before the redwood goal was breached when the corner came in pinballed round the box cleared only as far as Rachel on the edge of the box, she hit it through several players and it went in off the post 2-0

Reedswood came out hard and fast in the 2nd half, almost catching Wyrley sleeping, but Lauren was quick of the mark and snuffed out any danger.   As the game progressed Sophie, Rachel, Tash, Sam and Chelsea all had shots on goal, which either the brave keeper robbed off their feet, hit the post, bar or missed the target.  Tash must have been practicing for the Christmas ballet as she pirouetted over the ball, Sam’s hair dazzled as much as her footwork, Sub Charlie made sure we didn’t miss her in her pink gloves (was it cold?)  Jody showed her skills at air football, Kelly ran round clearing up like a sweeper, and Leanne kept forgetting her position.  Emily practised running into brick walls (some of those Reedwood players were quite hard).  Sophie was in the right position but Reedwood had read her script well.  Rachel fought in vain for an opening, Chelsea won most headers in midfield, and Cath was not in awe of anything running her way, which leaves Lauren who had an outstanding game keeping a clean sheet.  It was 88 mins when Tash had a free kick 30 yards out that was attached to Santa’s sleigh and sailed into the top right to wrap up the game 3-0.

Well done girls nice win and through to the next round of the League cup.
