A bright start by the Lions with plenty of flowing football & good use of the width saw a fine cross by Tom Jones converted by centre forward Luke Russell.
The Villans to their credit all be it wind assisted managed to get themselves back into the game. A ball straight through the heart of Lions 3 man defence was well converted for the equalizer & then minutes later a poor defensive error when trying to clear led to The Villans second goal. Lions goalkeeper Dale Hughes could have done better at his near post.
Led by inspirational Captain Dan Field Lions soon began pushing for an equalizer when a moment of sheer madness cost the Lions the match. Luke Russell was inexplicably sent off for violent conduct on the stroke of half time of which there is absolutley no defending.
We then reverted to a 4-4-1 formation for the second half & aided by the blustery wind had a couple of half chances to get back into the game. The Villans then managed to score a couple of really well taken goals which knocked the confidence of The Lions. With our heads down The Villans proceeded to score another 3 goals.
With the score at 1-7 Man of The Match Dan Field picked up the ball & hit a shot from outside the area to score a much personal deserved consolation goal.
Overall the game was a huge disappointment to most of the Lions players, the management team & the parents. It is clear that certain areas & aspects of the team drastically need to be looked at & improved if the team are to progress forwards this season.
