On a cold Saturday morning the girls were ready and waiting to play against a team they hadn’t yet met. They were warmed up and raring to go. During the team talk Martin decided that he was not going to play any forwards for this match and played his strongest players in the midfield positions.

In goal we had the marvelous Ruby followed by Madison in right-back defence, Eleanor in centre defence and Lily (twin) in left-back defence. In the midfield positions we had Ellie on the right side, Shannon in the centre and Letisha on the left. Shannon was also chosen by Martin to be the captain of the match. The girls who were put on the substitution bench for the first half were Chloe, Millie and Lily.

As the clock ticked closer towards 12 o’clock the girls lined up on the pitch in their positions. As the referee arrived the girls started to prepare themselves for kick off. Shannon went up against Woodstar Rangers’s captain for the toss of the coin which Wyrley Panthers won and Shannon chose Wyrley to kick off the match.

Bang on 12 o’clock the referee blew his whistle and the match began. Wyrley kept the ball closely between themselves. There were some fantastic passing between the players and a corner was given to us just 30 seconds into the game. As it was kicked off the players from the other team tried their best to get the ball away from their goalies half of the pitch but unfortunately ended up giving another corner to Wyrley. As it was kicked off again Woodstar played well to get the ball back up their half of the pitch but Eleanor defended the goal well and the ball went straight back down to Wyrley’s end of the pitch. Ellie received the ball from a great pass from one of the other players and took a shot at the goal at 2.40 minutes in but unfortunately the ball hit the over-head bar.

The ball continued to travel up and down the pitch passing between both of the teams as the ball came back down into Wyrley’s half of the pitch Ellie received the ball again at 3.54 minutes and took a shot at the goal and it went straight into the back of the net. It was 1-0 to Wyrley Panther’s.

The ball was put back onto the centre spot and Woodstar Rangers restarted the match. Wyrley got in some great tackles and so did Woodstar. Woodstar ended up kicking the ball over the sideline and a throw in was given to Wyrley which was taken by Madison at 4.50 minutes in. The ball made its way to Lily and she managed to take a shot at the goal but unfortunately missed and Woodstar Rangers took a goal kick. As the ball was passed up and down the pitch a good pass was made by Madison to Eleanor and the ball made its way down the pitch to Shannon who took a shot at the goal at 6 minutes and 48 seconds which made it 2-0 to Wyrley Panthers.

Woodstar kicked off the match again and as they made their way down the pitch towards the goal Eleanor made a great tackled and the ball headed back up towards Wyrley’s goal. Woodstar kicked the ball over the sideline and a throw in to Wyrley was given at 8 minutes in. The ball was thrown in and within 1 minute and 24 seconds it was kicked back out again and Madison took the throw in again. Wyrley managed to get the ball down towards the goal and a shot was taken but missed and went into the bushes behind the goal and a goalie kick to Woodstar was given at 10 minutes 49 seconds. Wyrley Rangers played well but unfortunately ended up kicking the ball over the sideline and a throw in was given to Woodstar Rangers at 11 minutes 12 seconds.

The ball started to get passed around the pitch and was kicked out again by Woodstar Rangers and Lily took the throw in and the ball headed towards the goal. Ellie took a shot at the goal at 12 minutes 50 and the goal was saved by the goalie. Woodstar kicked the ball over the sideline and Wyrley took a throw in. Lily took a shot at the goal at 13 minutes 56 seconds but unfortunately missed. The ball was kicked off again and made its way up and down the pitch. A free kick was given to Woodstar Rangers at 16 minutes 47 seconds due to a handball situation. Woodstar kicked the ball off and a corner was soon to be given to Woodstar at 17.56. Martin decided at 18 minutes 18 seconds to make a substitution and sent Letisha off and switch Millie on.

The match continued and Ellie took a shot at the goal but missed. Woodstar goalie kicked the ball off and the ball stayed in Wyrley’s half of the pitch. Woodstar tackled the ball from a Wyrley midfielder and a corner was given to Wyrley at 19 minutes 31 seconds taken by Lily (twin). The referee blew the whistle and that was the end of the first half.

Main possession of the ball went to Wyrley Panthers. All players played extremely well. The defending was fantastic and some there were some great tackles made by Eleanor and Wyrley made some great passes between each of the players. The score at the end of the first half was 2-0 to Wyrley Panthers, goals scored by Ellie and Shannon.

The seconds half began after a 2 minute rest break and mini team talk. Martin brought off Madison and Lily was brought on to play in midfield on the right. Eleanor was moved to right defence and Shannon was moved into centre defence. Millie was also moved positions to midfielder on the left-hand side.

Woodstar Rangers kicked off the ball from the centre and the 20 minute match restarted. A corner to Wyrley was given 25 seconds into the second half and was taken by Lily (twin). The ball made its way to Shannon and she took a shot at the goal and the ball missed rolling to the side of the posts at 1 minute 19 seconds in and Woodstar took a goal kick.

The ball was kicked off and at 1 minute 35 Lily received an injury and was taken off the pitch. Chloe was brought on in her place and took up the centre midfielder place. A free kick was given to Wyrley and was taken by Ellie. The ball made its way towards Wododstar Rangers’s goal and a goal kick was taken at 1 minute 52. Wyrley played well and a shot at the goal was taken at 2 minutes 5 but missed. At 2 minutes 27 seconds Wyrley was awarded a corner and the ball made its way to Ellie who took a shot at the goal at 2 minutes 50 and a goal was conceived. Wyrley 3 Woodstar Rangers 0.

Woodstar Rangers took the centre kick and not long after were given a throw in due to Wyrley kicking the ball over the sideline. Shannon was given a chance to take a shot at the goal at 4 minutes 49 seconds. It came very close to going in but unfortunately missed and a goal kick was given. Eleanor was subbed off and Lily was brought on at 7 minutes 3 seconds.

The match continued and just a short time afterwards a free kick was given to Woodstar and a goal was conceived by number 15 at 7 minutes 59 seconds making the score 3 to Wyrley Panthers and 1 to Woodstar Rangers. Wyrley kicked off the ball from the centre spot and the match continued. Wyrley took a great shot at the goal nearly 10 minutes into the second half but the shot was saved by the goalie.

The ball was kicked off again and not long after a throw in was given to Wyrley which was taken by Shannon. Ellie managed to take another shot at the goal but missed and the ball went behind the goal. Woodstar goalie kicked the ball off again at 12 minutes 5 seconds and the game was underway. The ball made its way down the pitch again and a great tackle was made by Woodstar but the ball was kicked over the sideline and a throw in was given to Wyrley at 12 minutes 46 seconds taken by Lily.

The ball made its way down near the goal as Wyrley tried to get the ball close to the goal. Woodstar kicked the ball off the pitch and a corner ball was given to Wyrley at 13 minutes 29 seconds. Shannon kicked the ball off from the corner and Ellie managed to take a shot at the goal at 14 minutes 2 but hit the post. Not long after another corner was given to Wyrley at 15 minutes taken by Lily (twin). Shannon took a shot at the goal but hit the top bar and Woodstar Rangers’s goalie kicked off the ball again.

Woodstar managed to take another shot at the goal with seconds to spare before the 2nd half whistle blew. Within the second half the possession of the ball was equal between the two teams. The end score was 3 to Wyrley Panthers and 1 to Woodstar Rangers. All players on both teams played well. There were some great tackles by Wyrley’s defending players. Ellie and Shannon took some great shots at the goal and between them conceived 3 goals. Overall it was a fantastic match and each and every player played extremely well. They should be proud of themselves.
