Wyrley Wolves continued the second round of official season games with two closely fought games against Walsall Wood FC and Diamond Academy respectively. Walsall Wood FC VS Wyrley Wolves.
This game was a difficult one for both sides to play as they were quite evenly matched and at times quite physical. The challenges from both sides were firm but fair with both teams trying to get a foothold in the game.
The first half saw Wyrley’s stand-in keeper Fr.Williams make some crucial saves, while up at the other end shots from Sharkey, Trainer, Lycett and Banks went close. Walsall Wood FC also looked dangerous, hitting the crossbar on more than one occasion.
Trainer opened the scoring with some fine individual skill and a great finish from within the box beating the keeper after the ball broke loose from midfield.
The second half saw the return of Wyrley’s traditional keeper Edwards between the posts – with some good work. Fr.Williams held the important defensive line with Bradburn at the back, both looking impressive. Fa.Williams made some excellent contributions in midfield supporting the Wyrley attack and defence.
Wyrley Wolves VS Diamond Academy
Both teams started the first half well, although it was Wyrley who eventually took their opportunities first with Lycett opening his account with a well taken goal. Five minutes later, Lycett doubled his tally with a tremendous defence splitting pass from Fa.Williams allowing Lycett to shoot the ball under the keeper.
Diamond were undeterred however, and put Wyrley under some real pressure with some ‘hairy moments’, pegging back the midfield and defence. Edwards produced some good saves and Fr.Williams and Bradburn last ditch tackles coupled with the defensive midfield work-rate of Banks, Trainer, Fa.Williams and Sharkey ensured that Diamond Academy were made to work for their chances and shots on goal.
In the second half, both teams were going toe to toe which made for some exciting counter-attacking football from both sides. Trainer closed the days goal-scoring account for Wyrley with a great break from midfield and coolly dispatching the ball with a great finish.
