Coseley Ladies 2-1 Wyrley Ladies

The biggest game of the season so far The League Cup Final against Coseley, a team that has thumped 9 goals against us in the previous 2 meetings this season.  The game kicked off to a very fast tempo and was end to end for the first 20 mins.  Tash was bought down outside the box by a very clumsy challenge that resulted in a yellow card for Coseley.  The resulting free kick was just off target.  22 mins an unfortunate mix up in the defence left an uncleared ball for Coseley to slot past Lauren 1-0.  Wyrley didn’t drop their heads and went straight back into attack mode.  Jody, Kirsty, Ash and Cath were kept busy by the counter attack from Coseley.  Kelly, Tash, Chelsea and Sam battled to hold the ball up in midfield, but Coseley are a big strong team that have played well all season, and pushed them back on numerous occasions.  40 mins Wyrley were awarded a free kick outside the area from a handball.  Tash floated the ball in but it hit the crossbar, the rebound went over Leanne and Sophie to Kelly who calmly controlled it and slotted into the bottom corner 1-1.  45 mins a Coseley attack resulted in a corner, which was stroked home by the unmarked Coseley player from the edge of the box 2-1.

The 2nd half was more pushing by Wyrley and the majority of the game was played in the Coseley half.  Coseley seemed to be sitting back and happy to hit on the counter attack and long balls sent over the top.  Wyrley thought they had equalised but were harshly judged offside.  Substitutes Vikki, Rachel and Charlie came on for Leanne, Sophie and Chelsea.  Rachel came close to equalizing but the Coseley keeper stood firm.  Vikki charged after countless balls and made Coseley work hard for the win.  Charlie sent over some superb crosses, Lauren made several outstanding saves and was blameless for the 2 goals.  Unfortunately at this level of football there is always going to be unused substitutes and on this occasion it was Emily and Nia.  Unable to play today were Jemma, Kelly I and Saffron.

Today you should all be proud of the achievement in reaching the final in your first season at this high level in Ladies football.  You have so far made a semi-final and final this season and already gained enough points to be playing here next season.  Well done to each and every one of you as it takes a squad of players to be able to turn out week after week, and without all of you this would not be possible.
