Wyrley Junior Girls U18's 5-2 Marston Green

It was a nervous looking Wyrley missing 2 major contributors of the team, (Ash broken toe, Leanne twisted ankle) playing a confident looking Marston Green.   Wyrley had the early chances with Kelly testing the keeper but missing the power to put it in the net.  25 mins Marston get a throw in level with Wyrley’s box, Wyrley totally switched off and Marston were allowed to shoot and score past the helpless Lauren 0-1.  This woke Wyrley up and Vikki’s superior corner was nodded home by none other than queen of the headers, Chelsea 1-1.  The next 15 mins were a battle to find a pass for Wyrley, while Marston seemed to be able to pick a player out wherever they hit it.  Kelly and Sophie were both guilty of gifting the keeper a simple save on more than 1 occasion (Kelly 7, Sophie 2).  The defence of Jody, Kirsty, Sam and Sarah were run ragged by the Marston forwards who were looking to regain the advantage, and were denied by Lauren commanding the box well.  41 mins Charlie who had run her legs off this half sent in a sublime pass to Sophie to knock through for Kelly to hit home 2-1.

Second half saw Wyrley start right from kick off and within the minute Sam pushed through a lovely ball for Kelly to run on to and put it in the bottom left 1-3.  Charlie was excellent down the wing chasing long balls down and battling hard for possession.  A lovely attempt on goal from Charlie, from outside the box which narrowly missed the target.  Tash tried her luck with the odd free kick, and was unlucky not to be on target.  69 mins Vikki’s cross found Kelly for a simple finish 4-1.  This was Wyrley’s cue to hit the self destruct button, they did not close down Marston, did not clear their lines and Kirsty’s clearance ended up in her own net 4-2 on 70 mins.  Natalie replaced Charlie and a shuffle round in formation, with Natalie going into defence and Sam moving up to midfield to help out Tash, Chelsea and Vikki who were being pulled out of position by the relentless Marston attacks.  Jody bought the ball out of defence, through midfield and finished off with a gentle pass to the keeper hmmm.  82 mins Sophie chased down a loose ball crossed to Kelly to place it past the keeper 5-2.

Not the best performance of the season but a win none the less.  The second half was better than the first maybe it was the half time team talk? Or maybe it was the skittles?
