Wyrley Juniors U17s 5-2 Evesham United U17s

This game like so many others this season could have gone either way, having played Evesham twice this season already, narrowly beating them each time.  Evesham only had 10 players and Wyrley took this as a sign of an easy game and started well on the attack.  3 mins gone a great run down the wing by Vicky, who sent in a pinpoint cross to Sophie, who controlled it well, turned and slotted it home 1-0.  2 mins later the same game plan, but the keeper parried it to Leanne, who hit it well but was judged to be offside.  This seemed to wake Evesham up and launch their own attacks.  10 mins lovely pass across Wyrley’s box wasnt dealt with and left Lauren stranded 1-1.  Wyrley did not learn from this and on 21 mins the Evesham forwards beat the offside and slotted home number 2, 1-2.  The rest of the half was sloppy play by both sides, who looked like they would all rather be sunbathing than running round a football field.

A few well chosen words of encouragement at half time saw a rejuvenated Wyrley appear on the pitch.  48 mins Vicky battled her way through, but her shot was parried to Leanne, who had an open goal 4 foot out, luckily she had the right boots this week, 2-2.  53min and another of Vickys assists looped the keeper and Sophie headed home her 2nd, 3-2.  54 mins and as i missed this 1, I consulted Vicky after the game, she said “it was another of those cross/shot/clearances”, who cares, they all count 4-2.  60 mins Leanne with a burting run down the wing, crossed to Charlie who passed to Sophie to kill the game off 5-2.  Jody, Hayley, Kirsty and Tash, all played well in the 2nd half with crunching tackles flying in from all of them.  Kelly, Leanne, Vicky and Ash all made excellent runs up and down both wings.  Becky held the ball up well in midfield, Chelsea won most headers and sent some great passes forward, Charlie with her assist and Sophie her hat-trick all deserve a mention for their hard work in the 2nd half.  The last play of the game saw Jody bring the ball out of defence taking on anyone who got in her way, all the way to the edge of their box, unfortunatly her shot was well saved.  Keep up the perfomances girls.

Next game Home to Chasetown on 18th April.
