Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U14’s Season 2014-15
League Div 1:- Wyrley Juniors United 2 v Mere Green 4
United entertained Mere Green in this important league fixture, the game wasn’t helped by a strong gusting wind from one end of the pitch to the other. Mere Green started with this advantage in the first half, United coped well with the wind in their faces and competed well all over the park, but Mere had the lion share of attempts on goal in the first 20 minutes or so, two great corners helped give Mere a 2 goal lead, Callum Mowe a little unlucky on the first goal as it seemed there was a slight push which made Callum lose his balance and unable to claim the cross, However United responded well and kept their heads up, Mowe made a great save from a shot from distance to prevent Mere having a three goal cushion, United had a free kick from Callum Ward go close, but a moment of great opportunism from Tom Wheeldon dragged United back into this game, he raced onto a deep ball to the right of the goal, took the ball in his stride before dispatching his shot off the outside of his left boot into the corner of the goal. United started brightly in the second period and put Mere Green under pressure, The ball fell to Liam Morley on the edge of the box, his well struck shot took a slight deflection to level the scores for United. Wheeldon was always a threat and a great long ball from Sam Foreman set Wheeldon free as the keeper advanced, he made a good connection but it went just wide of the target. Mere Green came back and a well taken goal put them back in front, United tried to respond but one or two were running on empty, Mere Green added one more goal to give them a two goal cushion again. Wheeldon was unlucky not to add to his tally, when the Mere Green keeper kept out a well struck volley with his legs. Mere Green finished strongly to earn all three points.
Bags of effort lads, unlucky with the result!
