LICHFIELD JUNIOR YOUTH LEAGUE U12’s Division 2
MATCH REPORT 12/05/2013
WYRLEY JUNIORS UNITED 3 v 1 FOOTBALL FUTURES
United managed the double against a determined and competitive Futures team, and in doing so leap frog them to finish a respectable 3rd in league division 2, a fine achievement to emulate last seasons league position but this time around playing one division higher. The boys have really galvanised in the second half of the season and in difficult wet and windy conditions wanted to finish the season on a high, Futures however had other ideas and pressed hard in the opening ten minutes, their team are full of strong athletic players and worked the United midfield and defence hard during this spell, Tom Peacock repelled a couple of Futures attacks with strong determined defending inside the box and Jack Addison in the Wyrley goal was equal to any of the efforts that Futures could muster on goal, Wyrley began to get into the game and managed to force a couple of corners, Liam Morley’s delivery was good but Futures cleared the first two comfortably, however the third one evaded the defence and bounced kindly to Tom Wheeldon who volleyed the ball into the roof of the net to put United one up perhaps a little against the run of play. United began to get more possession, however the game was played at a frantic pace and the ball became a bit of a hot potato for both teams. United struck again though when Futures failed to clear the ball well, the ball was steadied just outside the box by united man of the match Callum Holliday who calmly hit a arrow like shot to the keeper’s right, into the far corner of the net. Half time and United drew breath in anticipation of the second half Futures onslaught, Futures had a fair amount of possession in this half but couldn’t trouble Addison significantly in the Wyrley goal, United always looked a threat on the break and Sam Foreman found Zak Hallett, he hooked the ball cleverly over the top of the Futures defence, Wheeldon fed off the pass and expertly lobbed the keeper to put United 3 up. Futures got a goal back but with 10 minutes to go United tightened up all over the pitch to seal the win.
Well done lads another fine season, really proud of the second half season improvement, lets have a great night Friday.
