Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U14’s Season 2014-15
Lichfield League open cup 2nd round.
Wyrley Juniors United 2 v Hawkins Sports 1.
We came up against our local rivals in this enthralling cup encounter, Hawkins have started their season well and are unbeaten in their league campaign so far this season, so we knew that although from a lower division we would have a game on our hands. The first half passed quickly and was very much end to end, Callum Ward created a chance for Tom Wheeldon towards the end of the half but his header went just wide. Hawkins had been held to long range attempts on goal until this point, but a through ball eventually found its way to their striker who took his opportunity well to put Hawkins 1 up at half time. United knew they needed to up their game and in the second half they got more and more possession, the centre pairing of Liam Morley and Sam Foreman began to get a greater foothold in the game, the latter put Cory Crutchley in and even though Cory had been starved of clear cut opportunities he made this chance count, finishing calmly to the keeper’s left high into the net. Hawkins did react well to this and had a little spell of pressure, Callum Mowe earning his crust in the United goal to make a couple of fine saves, But United hit their second when Cory Crutchley hard’s work down the left flank was rewarded when his pull back found United man of the match Callum Ward to hit United’s second goal. Hawkins didn’t give in but United too worked their opponents keeper and Tom Wheeldon was unlucky not to further United’s advantage.
