Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U13’s Season 2013-14
Lichfield League Division 1.
Wyrley Juniors United 3 v 2 Sportsco Saints.
United have always put Sportsco to the sword in previous league encounters, usually having a healthy winning margin at the final whistle, however this was a day when the form book was turned on its head a little and credit must be given to a spirited Sportsco team who turned up today prepared not to be put to the slaughter and determined to give it a real go, after an even but unexciting first half, Saints took the lead, when they capitalised on a United defensive error. United did respond and had their best spell of the game during the next 15-20 minutes or so, Sam Foreman got United back in it with a fine near post effort, before a few minutes later Tom Wheeldon raced clear to slot the ball skilfully beyond the keeper. United at last showed their teeth a little and a Wheeldon effort was blocked by the keeper only to fall to United man of the match Crook to tap in from short range, Crook was unlucky not to finish from close range a few minutes later and give United some breathing space. Saints hit their second with a few minutes remaining and may feel a little aggrieved to have lost this game by the odd goal at the final whistle.
Good fight back boys, pitch not at its best today, wasn’t easy to play on, sometimes you just have to roll up your sleeves and dig in and todays game sort of panned out a bit like that today, however we still managed to get the three points!
