Match Report:- Wyrley Juniors United U13’s Season 2013-14
Lichfield League Division 1.
Wyrley Juniors United 2 v Rugeley Rangers 1
Our first league game at home for 3 months was quite a close affair, It must be said that the recent wet weather had more than made its mark on what is usually a pretty flat surface, the pitch wearing some awful indentations in various spots across its surface, that said, the pitch was perfectly playable and it’s poor condition the same for both teams. The first ten minutes were pretty quiet as both teams probed for a opening, the Rugeley keeper making a fine save from a Tom Wheeldon strike from distance, Tom was proving to be quite an handful but Rugeley had shuffled their team well to try and keep him at bay. United began to boss the game a little after the first quarter and forced a couple of corners, which were dealt with by the Rugeley defence, but Wheeldon eventually found his range and shot from just outside the box was parried by the Rugeley keeper into the bottom corner of the net. Their keeper had to leave the game, after injuring himself attempting to make the save, Rugeley had to re-shuffle and to their credit it didn’t dampen their resolve. The second half, United were asked to continue to compete at the same level, United man of the match Liam Morley leading by example, however a deep through ball by Rangers evaded the United defence, their winger neatly played in their striker, who calmly brought Rugeley level, a scrappy period followed for the next 10 minutes or so as both teams attempted to gain the upper hand, with ten minutes to go United took a grip of the game and Wheeldon unluckily hit the post, Charlie Street pulled his shot wide from ten yards and Wheeldon had another attempt flash past the face of the goal. With less than five minutes to go Street made up for his earlier miss, when he hit the winner with a great right foot strike after more good work from Wheeldon.
Great Win lads, very proud of your effort today, back four solid on a tricky surface, keep up the momentum United!
