Panther’s continued their excellent start to the new year making it 9 points from a possible 12.
Great Barr Harriers U9’s 1 vs Wyrley Panther’s U9’s 3
The game started as a very tense affair with Harriers having the best of the early exchanges, with some smart goalkeeping from George Bailey preventing Panther’s going one nil down. As the first half wore on Panther’s began to turn the screw, forcing a corner on eight minutes. Pin pointed by Ben Malpass the ball fell kindly for Sam Steptoe, who then slotted it home from close range. Soon Panther’s were creating chance after chance & it was only a matter of time before Kaine Garratt latched onto a cross to make it 0-2 to the Panther’s.
The second half was a very different story, with Harriers creating many more chances. A defensive slip up allowed Harriers back into the game making it 1-2. Panther’s then dug deep against the gushing wind with battling displays from Thomas Williamson, Jack Miller-Flynn & Jamie Wilson. The introduction of second half subs Sam Hadwen, Tommy Bannister, Elliot Kelsey, John Walters & Thomas Walters restored some balance & much needed fresh legs to the Panther’s side. Soon Panther’s were back on top & when Elliot Kelsey was bought down in the box the Ref had no choice but to award Panther’s a penalty. Up stepped top goalscorer Ben Malpass, to slot home his 7th goal of the season & secure 3 points.

Panther’s took this game by the scruff of the neck from the kick off, with Thomas Williamson & former Colts player Jack Miller-Flynn both going close. However it was left to a sweet left foot strike from Tommy Bannister, from a full 20 yards to give Panther’s the lead. Seven minutes later Ben Malpass went on a mazy run down the inside left channel, before shooting home past the stranded Colts Keeper to claim his second goal of the day.
The second half was largely uneventful with Panther’s snubbing out any attacks from the Colts, awarding them with their second set of 3 points.
