PRD United U9s 1 v Panthers U9s 1

Panthers showed exactly just how far they have come in this their first season. In Pre season round robins PRD had put 9 (NINE) goals past the very same Panthers team and are presently flying high in second place. Nevertheless, this is a much improved team and with third place now firmly in their sights, Panthers set about this match with a true desire to win.

The first half saw Panthers launch attack after attack on the PRD goal, with Sam Steptoe, Ben Malpass, Thomas Williamson & Kaine Garratt all going close. Whilst Panthers looked to be the most likely to score it was PRD who broke the deadlock on 8 minutes against the run of play. 1-0.

Panthers were undeterred by this and continued to push forward. On 12 minutes a quick throw-in by Steptoe broke free to Williamson, who was judged to have used his arm before smashing the ball into the keepers bottom left corner. It now seemed sure that Panthers would get a deserved break and when Malpass swung in a near post corner on 14 minutes Williamson was there to smash home the ball from close range. 1-1.

The second half was somewhat reminicient of the Alamo as PRD forced the pace and if not for some great goalkeeping by Bailey and excellent defending by Wilson the score could have been different. Although, PRD deserved the second half as much as Panthers desereved the first, it was Panthers who nearly stole all three points when John Walters raced through only to be caught before he could pull the trigger!

The game ended in a well deserved draw 1-1 and shows the progress we have made this season! (WELL DONE BOYS VERY PROUD AND “CHUFFED TO BITS”).
