Shire Oak Saints: 4 v 4: Wyrley Juniors Dragons
The Saints played host to Dragons this past weekend as Wyrley looked to put their first points of the season on the board.
The game kicked off and Shire Oak started the strongest and with the previous two weeks results you wondered if Dragons would be able to handle the pressure that was being applied. The Dragons held out defending their goal with bravery and gusto which Carl P emphasised as Shire Oak chipped Ethan in goal leaving Carl to make a last chance overhead kick clearance off the line to deny Saints the opening goal. That settled the Dragons down and now seeing the confidence grow throughout the team they started to take control of the game with Edward charging down the right wing setting up Corey who hit the cross bar with his shot. With the whole team putting in a solid performance Shire Oak opened the scoring somewhat against the run of play 5 minutes before half time.
Half Time 1 – 0.
The Second Half kicked off and Dragons started strong and within minutes Kieran S picked up the ball in midfield sending Ewan charging up field, who slid a weighted ball through Saints defence for Cieran W to score Dragons first goal of the competitive season. Dragons pushed on looking for another goal as Shire Oak were rocked and didn’t seem to know what had happened, Kieran S Dragons second goal with a brilliant shot to the far side of the keeper who couldn’t do anything about it. With Dragons now in command it looked like they would walk away with the win but all credit to Shire Oak who came back at Dragon to equalise and it was game on. Dragons were next to score with Kieran S once again firing off a powerful shot easily beating the keeper to restore the lead. Some excellent football was on display as time and time again Dragons broke through onto Shire Oaks goal with Edward and Corey missing two good chances. Shire Oak came back at Wyrley to equalise once more but when Corey finally got the goal he deserved, (his first goal for Dragons), It looked over with only minutes to go and Dragons looking the stronger team. As the last minute of time was being played Shire Oak broke through with one last chance attack and their cross into the box was met with a well placed shot into the corner of Dragons goal to bring the score to 4 – 4 with the full time whistle going as soon as Dragons restart the game.
Full Time 4 – 4.
