Wyrley Juniors 2-1 Darlaston Town Reserves

Wyrley got back to winning ways on Saturday against a resilient Darlaston Town Reserves. Wyrley started the game very nervously and struggled to keep hold of the ball in the first half an hour before conceding a shock goal. The lively Darlaston striker picked up a loose ball, cut in from the left past Adam Jinks and unleashed an excellent strike past Dan Batkin into the far top corner. Wyrley went close a couple of times leading up to half time but for the second consecutive week went in 1-0 down at the break.

Wyrley returned from a half time dressing down in much better form but continued to spurn some excellent chances before Thomas Lowe got them back on level terms after 55 minutes. Lowe combined really well with Saul Stocking down the right hand side before Stocking pulled the ball back from the touchline for Lowe to roll home from close range. Ten minutes later and Wyrley got their noses in front when Lee Charles and Chris Asbury played a short corner before Charles curled a great strike in at the far post from the corner of the area. Wyrley had the ball in the net again on 75 minutes but it was ruled out for offside when Lowe sent an effort towards goal and Chris Geldart helped it over the line. Initially there was no flag from the linesman but after consultation with the referee they deemed that Geldart had been in an offside position when Lowe hit the original shot.

Geldart, Lowe and Stocking all had excellent chances as the game came to a close but failed to convert them and Wyrley managed to hold out for the 3 points before hearing the news that league leaders Black Country Rangers had only managed a draw at home against Mahal. That takes Wyrley back to within a point of Black Country at the top of the league. Next week Wyrley are away against Ettingshall Park Farm at Goodyear Sports Ground before entertaining Penkridge Town at the Red Lion Ground a week later.
