WYRLEY JUNIORS PUMAS 3 V 1 LICHFIELD DIAMONDS
The first league game of the season for the Pumas was against last seasons Burton league winners Lichfield, this was always going to be a close game, on a hard surface Lichfield adapted better to the conditions in the first quarter of this game, putting pressure on the Pumas defence, A looping header from Lichfield bounced awkwardly over the keeper, hitting the upright, the ball finally found the net after rebounding off Martha Saunders the unlucky Pumas keeper. This seemed to kick start the Pumas game, the Pumas strikers Abi Hall and Lucy Wells began to get into the game. A good forward move saw Wells drive the ball across the box , Ilora Anderson just missing the ball with the goal at her mercy. Pumas built on this and Danni Jay Dodd Biggs and man of the match Lauren Rolls started to play well in the middle of the park for the Pumas. Wells broke free and after slipping the defender placed her shot neatly into the corner of the net to draw Pumas level. Abi Hall then got into the act and finished well inside the box to ease Pumas ahead just before half-time.
The second half Lichfield pressed hard for a shot at goal but were given little opportunity, Jaffa, Jordan Parker and Abby Judson holding firm in the Pumas defence with help from Karis Foreman and Ellie Whitehouse. Wells breached the Lichfield defence once more and under a heavy challenge, she held off the Lichfield defender to hit her second of the match and complete the victory
