Wyrley continued their excellent start to the season with a 6-1 defeat of Tenbury on Saturday.
Tenbury started the game very well and utilised the wind advantage to put Wyrley under a lot of pressure in the first 25 minutes. Against the run of play Wyrley then took the lead after some good hold up play from Chris Geldart he played a nice through ball that put Steve McMahon one on one with the Tenbury keeper and McMahon made no mistake slotting home from ten yards. Wyrley then controlled the rest of the first half and went in at the break 1-0 up.
With the hard work done against the wind it appeared that Wyrley thought the job had been completed and they started the second half very slowly. Five minutes into the second half Tenbury had a good opportunity which Richard James did well to push wide. From the resulting corner slack marking allowing a free header at the back post meant Tenbury managed to get back on level terms.
Within minutes Wyrley then regained the lead when Lee Charles collected the ball on the touchline, cut in from the right and unleashed an unstoppable shot from the corner of the box into the opposite top corner. Five minutes later Charles was at the thick of it again outpacing the Tenbury full back and pulling back for McMahon to add his second from close range.
With the game practically won Wyrley made a couple of changes introducing Chris Fowler and Thomas Lowe to the game and they both got amongst the goals quite quickly. Lowe was first on the scoresheet when he coolly rounded the Tenbury keeper after a lovely through ball from McMahon. Then after Lowe had beat two Tenbury players on the left wing he found Fowler who finished from 12 yards.
Lowe then completed the scoring when he pounced on a loose pass by the Tenbury centre half and again stepped round the keeper with great confidence before rolling into an empty net. Again the work rate and commitment shown by Wyrley was key to the result and hopefully the good start to the season can continue.
Next week Wyrley are away against Malvern Rangers before entertaining Mahal at the Red Lion Ground.
